Amongst the rows of bookshelves at the Clarence Regional Library in Grafton last week, was a table decorated with plates of Mars bar slice, vanilla cupcakes, Anzac biscuits, camembert cheese and water crackers, sandwiches, tea and coffee, and most importantly, a donation box.
In between browsing through publications by various authors, conducting research, and welcoming the newest addition to the Clarence Regional Library, the impressive Mackay Archive collection, visitors were invited to join staff for some sweet treats as they raised a cup and funds for the Cancer Council as part of the Biggest Morning Tea.
In 2021, the Clarence Regional Library raised $600 for the Cancer Council, a target they were aiming to match, or better, when they hosted the event again this year.
As they invited the Clarence Valley Independent to join them, staff members
Tahlia Scherger, Di Luxton and Merilyn Cocks said every dollar raised for the Cancer Council helps to make a big difference.
“The Biggest Morning Tea brings the community together as well, and we enjoy hosting it each year,” Ms Scherger said.
“Every little bit that goes into the donation box counts,” Ms Luxton added.
“All the staff get involved,” Ms Cocks said.
“We love putting it together.”

The plates of goodies available for visitors during the Biggest Morning Tea were kindly prepared by the hardworking volunteers of the Clarence Regional Library.
“They put in such an amazing effort each year,” Ms Luxton said.
“They’ve done a wonderful job again.”
Businesses across Australia are encouraged to host Biggest Morning Teas throughout May and June to raise funds for people whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
Clarence Valley businesses interested in hosting a Biggest Morning Tea are invited to register at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au
At the time of publication, 19247 Biggest Morning Teas had been registered across the country, and more than $5.1 million had been raised.
Speaking with the Clarence Valley Independent on May 30, the Clarence Regional Library proudly revealed they had raised $$$$$$ for the Cancer Council from their Biggest Morning Tea last week.
