It is one month from today that residents of the Clarence Valley will head to the polls to vote in the 2024 Local Government Election.
Nine councillors will be elected to steer Clarence Valley Council for the next four years, with the new Mayor to be elected in a vote by the newly elected councillors.
When deadline was reached this week, the 13 candidates registered on the NSW Electoral Commission website for Clarence were: James Allen, Andrew Baker, Amanda Brien, Lynnette Cairns, Shane Causley, Justin James, Peter Johnstone, Terry Jones, Stephen Pickering, Des Schroder, Ray Smith, Allison Whaites, and Cristie Yager.

Currently we have received profiles from James Allen, Andrew Baker, Amanda Brien, Lynette Cairns, Greg Clancy, Debrah Novak, Melissa Hellwig, Stephen Pickering, Des Schroder, and Cristie Yager.
The ballot draw will be conducted tomorrow, Thursday, August 15, at 2pm at a returning office at Evans Head.
All candidates are encouraged to send a 350 word profile, photos and contact details to journalistyamba@cvnews.com.au by close of business on Friday, August 16, to be included in our free election coverage.
The key election dates you need to know are:
Tuesday, August 6. Lodgement of postal vote applications open.
Wednesday, August 14. 12 noon: Close of nominations and close of registration of candidates and groups.
Registration of electoral materials open.
Thursday, August 15. 2pm: Ballot paper draw conducted; uncontested elections declared.
Monday, August 19. Postal pack distribution begins.
Monday, September 2. Display of registered electoral material website commences.
Friday, September 6. Registration of electoral material closes.
Saturday, September 7. Pre-poll voting opens (no voting Sunday, September 8).
Telephone assisted voting applications and voting open. (restricted to electors who are blind or have low vision)
Monday, September 9. 5pm: Postal vote applications close. Registration of third-party campaigners close.
Friday, September 13. Pre-poll voting closes. Telephone assisted voting applications close.
Saturday, September 14. 8am to 6pm: Election Day.
1pm: Telephone assisted voting closes.
