Kevin Hogan’s column for this month

I recently dropped in to see Jean Freeman at Mareeba Nursing Home in Maclean to wish her a Happy 100th Birthday.

Jean grew up in South Grafton and her maiden name was Cowan. She is believed to be the oldest living student from South Grafton High.

Happy Birthday Jean.

On Monday of last week I had morning tea with 220 school leaders and their families to honour them in such an important role in their school life.

Guest speaker was local stock and station agent Jo Jo Newby who was also a former photojournalist and has done some great drought relief work.

The announcement this week from the Government of a new Radiation Therapy Centre in Grafton means we won’t have to travel to Coffs or Lismore for this service anymore.

The new centre will deliver high quality, comprehensive radiation oncology services.
