Jo Pugh is CRDWBA Champion of Champions

The Clarence River Champion of Champions was held at Red Rock WBC on Thursday August 2 with rather disappointing nominations with only four of the seven District Clubs participating. The morning games were played in bright sunshine with hardly a breath of wind, with the semi finals between Red Rock’s Andrea Rudd playing Grafton District Services Jo Pugh and Maclean’s Monica Parker playing Wooli’s Libby Toole. Red Rock’s Andrea Rudd started well leading 9/0 after the fifth end with Grafton District Services Jo Pugh fighting back with some excellent draw bowls to lead 13/12 after the 15th end and despite some great conversions from Andrea who fought back to lead 21/16 after the 22nd end when Jo played some brilliant draw bowls to win the next three ends winning the game 25/21 The second semi final was played between Wooli’s Libby Toole and Maclean’s Monica Parker who proved to be too strong for Libby (one of Wooli’s very new bowlers) who tried valiantly but could not match Monica’s experience. The clouds came in and a cool stiff breeze greeted the players for the final of the Championship with Jo starting well to lead 7/2 after the 6th with Monica finding her rhythm to take the score to 6/8 on the 10th end with both girls playing excellent draw bowls and Monica playing some great conversions to reach 13/21 on the 19th end but Jo’s consistency saw her bowl 4 winning shots on the next end to win 25/13 Congratulations to both girls on an excellent game and especially to Jo Pugh our new Champion of Champions.
