Jacaranda Thursday moved to December 9

One of the most popular events on the local calendar is officially going ahead, but you’ll have to wait an extra couple of weeks.

The Jacaranda Festival Committee have confirmed Jacaranda Thursday has been moved to coincide with the new dates of the 2021 Jacaranda Festival.

The half-day public holiday to celebrate local festivities will now be held on December 9.

Jacaranda Festival Manager Mark Blackadder said the request to move Jacaranda Thursday was made to Clarence Valley Council (CVC), with councillors approving the application during their monthly meeting on October 26.

The request was then referred to the Special Minister of State, Minister for the Public Service and Employees Relations, Aboriginal Affairs and the Arts, the Honourable Don Harwin, MLC, who said it made sense to move the half-day holiday to a new date.

Mr Blackadder said the process was quick and seamless, and the Jacaranda Festival Committee had confirmation from the State Government on October 28.

“We can’t thank CVC enough for helping to make this happen, as well as the assistance of our local member Chris Gulaptis,” he said.

Mr Blackadder said the rescheduling of Jacaranda Thursday will ensure the flow and tradition of the festival remains intact.
