There was a slight altercation at the finish line between these two carts driven by Sebastien McLachlan and Rick Skinner.
  The inaugural Jacaranda Billy Cart Derby was held on Saturday at Tyson Street, South Grafton with around 57 entries. Race caller for the day was Jacaranda Ball and Queen Crowning MC, Dessan Paddiarchi, who added his special brand of humour to the event by announcing the start of each race with “Gentlemen, start your engines”. The Jacaranda ‘Purple Army’ volunteers and Grafton Rotary Club assisted with the running of the event. As a safety precaution, the course was surrounded with hay bales, which were provided by Rick Green from Swan Creek and St John’s Ambulance crew were on standby, in case of any mishaps. Organisers would like to thank all sponsors for getting behind the inaugural event and everyone who took part and helped out to make the event possible. The fastest times went to: 1st place went to Howard Ferner with a time of 30.097, 2nd Dave Buchan 30.143, 3rd Spud Anderson 31.300, 4th Jaiden West 31.791 and 5th Brandon Disson 31.791. The age category winners were: 5-7 years Brock Skinner, 8-11 years Jaiden West and 12-15 years Alex Alford. Congratulations to all competitors for taking part and making this event such a fun time. Organisers hope that this event will be even bigger and better next year.
