The VIEW Clubs of the Clarence Valley will be celebrating International Women’s Day 2020 at Bowlo Sports and Leisure Yamba, from 9am to 2pm on Friday March 13.

National Councillor (Northern Mid area) Elizabeth Birch said that this event will be their major fundraising event for the VIEW Clubs sponsorship for the education of 19 disadvantaged Australian school children with the Smith Family’s “Learning for Life” programs.

“Here in the Clarence Valley we have four VIEW Clubs: Grafton, Maclean, Yamba Day and Yamba Evening,” Ms Birch said.

“Tickets for the VIEW Club’s International Women’s Day are $32 which includes morning tea and lunch, entertainment, guest speakers, raffles, tombolas and lucky door prizes.

“Come along and celebrate this special day with us,” she said.

In Australia, there are 1.1 million children and young people living in poverty.

Living in poverty can have a devastating effect on a child’s life.

Without books and learning materials at home, many disadvantaged children start school already behind. Wearing worn–out uniforms and without the necessities, they stand out at school for all the wrong reasons.

Each year the poverty they are experiencing widens the gap between them and their classmates. Over time, they fall behind, lose confidence and may leave school early. Without the chance to complete year 12, securing work is more challenging. Sadly, the cycle of poverty may then continue with their own children.

VIEW Clubs of Australia is the largest community sponsor of the Learning for Life program and is a valuable partner in The Smith Family’s mission to provide long–term educational support to young Australians experiencing disadvantage.

The Smith Family is extremely grateful for the VIEW Clubs’ generous support.
