Inaugural Art Prize at Art in the Paddock

As a way of supporting the artists who make the art for Art in the Paddock $1,000 worth of art prizes are being awarded on the day. There will be a first prize of $500 and a second prize of $250 awarded to work selected by two art professionals. A third prize called Guests Choice will be selected through the guests on the day voting for their favourite work.

Artists and craftspeople of the Clarence Valley and nearby regions are invited to present a display of their artwork in the beautiful gardens of Yulgilbar Castle, near Baryulgil. Up to 50 artists have enjoyed this gathering of artists and musicians since it began in 2007.

Chair of The Gallery Foundation, Rod Watters says, “Our artists love participating in the Foundation’s events as these fundraisers have purchased over $58,000 worth of artworks for the Grafton Regional Gallery Collection since 2005. And the art is mostly by Clarence Valley artists – living ones at that. The Foundation has also committed $100,000 to the upcoming refurbishment and extensions to the Grafton Regional Gallery. Our artists support the Foundation’s programs as a way to support their regional gallery.”

The very popular Art in the Paddock presented by The Gallery Foundation is being held at Yulgilbar Castle 11am to 4pm Sunday June 2. A 20% commission is charged on all art sales at this fundraiser. There are no site or entry fees to the artist and their artist helper. The Foundation will have EFTPOS facilities available.

Rod also noted that, “Art in the Paddock is very nearly booked out and there are only a few combination tickets available. Our visitors will enjoy art, music, various tours and fine food.”
