Tuesday’s event last week was an individual Stableford supported by a good field and played in perfect conditions after an early morning downpour which looked threatening, but stayed away for the main field.
Doug Turner, our greenkeeper and his Army of Merry Volunteers again presented the course in excellent condition, which was enjoyed by many Easter visitors as well. Unfortunately the numerous social golfers do not share the same golf etiquette and concern for repairing divots and pitch marks, which will be attended to by all our members.
Our sponsor for the day was our own Veteran, Bob Oddy, who enjoyed a good score of 36 points but must have eased off the pace in case he won his own trophy.
Overall winner was Bill Thompson, a new member of the Iluka Golf Club and first time visitor to our Vets Day. He shot a very good 38 points and won on a c/b from Geoffrey Prentice. Bill played off his new handicap of 22 and proceeded to demolish the course, we twigged on early that he must have some serious hidden golf talents, ready to emerge. Bill explained that he played off a TWO handicap 25 years ago on the Gold Coast before a series of bad injuries. Many operations have recently enabled him to get back on the golf course. So good luck to Bill as he manages his way back and I am sure he will be playing off single figures soon, and will provide some serious competition to our A graders.
Runner up was Geoffrey Prentice, with 38. He could not believe his rotten luck to lose again on a countback, to first up visitor Bill Thompson. Nevertheless, the old stager, Geoffrey Prentice was singing to himself all day in the cart which added to a relaxing and enjoyable day for his playing partners. Watch out next week, for the bruised golfer has vowed a winning score.
NTP’s: 1 / 10 – Bob Wissink; 6 / 15 – Paul MacLean; 8 / 17 – Geoffrey Prentice. Roy Ellery 3rd shot on 3 / 12 went to Noel Chambers.
Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Cup went to Paul Mitchell. Paul blew the field away last week with 45 points, but was very humble and noticeably quiet today with a very modest 28 points.
The ball rundown went to 10 players with 35 points or better.
