Iluka Veterans golf Tuesday Stableford

Last Tuesday’s event (May 21) was a single Stableford competition with a very good field enticed out by the immaculate weather. A perfect day for golf, on a course again presented in excellent condition by our Greenkeeper, Doug Turner, and his Army of Merry Volunteers.

The day was sponsored by our own Jim Cazalet. Jim and his family have been strong supporters of the Iluka Golf Club for many years and continue to contribute generously.

Iluka Veterans president, Geoff Prentice, again did the presentations with his unique blend of humour, in lieu of captain, Jim Lowe, who is recovering well in Lismore Hospital. We are pleased to know that Jim is now making good progress and already prowling the corridors looking for innocent victims to harass and annoy.

We welcomed new Vets member, Lester Rickerts, who made his presence felt by promptly taking off the near pin on 8 / 17. Departing the Iluka scene is Vet, Jeoffrey Dorrell, who was farewelled, by Geoffrey Prentice, and given a rousing round of applause by all Vets present. We all wish Jeoff and Margret all the best on the Sunshine Coast. Visitors from Burrum District, North Ryde and Grafton were also welcomed.

Overall winner was Bob Buzzell with a very good 40 points on countback from Bob Wissink also on 40 points. Bob Buzzell is one of our early morning starters teeing off at sparrows, and so was not back for the presentation. In his absence, Bob Wissink, thanked sponsor Jim Cazalet, his playing partners for a great fun day and complimented the course management on the golf course. Geoffrey Prentice, who loves the podium, went on and on, lamenting the loss of losing his long saved ‘pie money’ to Bob Wissink and his partner John Lloyd, Geoffrey was not amused and his pie will have to wait for another day.

NTP’s: 1 / 10 – Frank Poore; 6 / 15 – Brian Kembrey; 8 / 17 – Lester Rickerts. The Roy Ellery 3rd shot on 3 / 12 went to Chris Richards.

The ball rundown went on forever due to the excellent field out today with 13 players winning a ball with scores of 33 or better.

The Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Cup went to Kate Brims who now has enough Mars Bars to start her own sweets shop, and this week filled the Porcelain Cup with Scotch and proceeded to enjoy her win, much to husband Barry’s horror. Kate actually won this week on countback from Burrum Dist visitor Kevin Leader who has won everything over the past few weeks. What a difference a week makes on the golf course, from winner to equal last; fancy winning the Mars Bar on countback. Well done Kate.

Gordon Farrell just loves the spotlight. His form was not so flash on the fairways today so he bobs up and wins the raffle with Neil Grady second prize. Well done guys!

Keep an eye out for the Vets President Vs Captains day which promises to be a major event and planning is well under way to make it a big day.
