Our August 27 event was an individual Stableford played in superb conditions with the course showing the effects of the prolonged dry spell giving much more bounce and run on the fairways which are hard and dry.

The day was sponsored by Bob Buzzell, who generously threw in a few extra prizes, enabling a few more players to share the spoils. The first prize was eagerly sought for being a bottle of vintage Scotch. Well done Bob Buzzell and many thanks for your generosity.

Overall winner was, Brad Broad, with a massive 43 points. Brad is our regular visitor from the Sunshine Coast who stays in Iluka for three months every winter. It was Brad’s last game before heading back home and he was delighted to get his hands on the Scotch which he promised will be enjoyed along with the fond memories of this visit.

Runner up was Brian Kay with 41 points and second r/up was Bob Wissink with 40 points on c/b from Frank Poore, who is on a roll and will lose another shot on his handicap, and is now playing like the Frank of old after completing his eye surgeries.

NTP’s: 1/ 10 was Jim Lowe, who was beside himself at winning his first NTP for quite some time, and paraded around the Clubhouse holding the winner’s ball aloft for all to see; 6 / 15 was Frank Poore and 8 / 17 was Danny Mortison.

The ball rundown went to 10 players with 36 points or better.

The Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Mug went to John Strong, our regular visitor from New Zealand who recorded a modest and not too bad 27 points.

Happy Birthday wishes went to our resident Pro, Mark Adey, whom we presented with a birthday cake which he generously shared around with all present. We believe the candles on the cake told a white lie and suggested that Mark had just turned 84, some clever wit had reversed the correct 48.

Birthday Boy, our resident Pro, Mark Adey, was not so happy to get Samantha the Snake for 3 putting the 4th hole and had to carry Samantha all day, because no one else 3 putted on the day. Mark was well acquainted with Samantha by the end of the day, but had no sorrow handing her back after the final hole. Image: Contributed.
Our Pro, Mark Adey, again in full swing powering a prodigious drive on the 5th to within 50 metres of the green. Always a pleasure to play with, we stand back in awe at his golf shots which we mere mortals can only dream about doing. Image: Contributed.
