Our last event, a single Stableford, was the Alan Jones Memorial sponsored by Di Jones who so generously keeps the legacy of Alan well and truly alive at the Iluka Golf Club where Alan is fondly remembered by all; thank you Di Jones.

The weather was perfect for golf with the incessant heat abating, allowing the players more comfortable conditions and a pleasant experience. The course is looking great and the Greens being worked on to be in tip top shape for the upcoming Club Championships.

Winner Bob Wissink received the Alan Jones Memorial trophy with 41 points won on a countback from Graeme Lynn who could not believe his bad luck. Luck plays a huge part in golf with Bob explaining that he putted in for birdie on the last two holes from well off the Green so his luck was in today. Cause for celebrations and high fives all round on the18th Green with one player dropping his cap, dropped his putter, dropped his dacks, turned around and presented a full moon. The ‘Moonshiner’ shall remain anonymous.

Graeme Lynn was r/up with 41 points and could not believe his rotten luck beaten on a countback and according to Paul Mitchell has now peaked far too early for the upcoming Club Championships.

Results

NTP’s: 1 / 10 – Danny Mortison; 6 / 15 – Barry Beyer (regular and popular visitor from Hervey Bay, welcome back again Barry); 8 / 17 – Frank Poore. Roy Ellery 3rd shot on 3 / 12 went to Noel Chambers.

Barry Robbie Mars Bar & Porcelain Cup went to Roy Ellery, who could not find the fairways today and played most of his game in and out of the woods.

The ball rundown went to 10 players on 36 points or better with the ideal conditions and no wind reflecting on the overall better scores. Jim Wride piped up big time when his name was not called with 37 points and Captain Jim Lowe taking it all in stride, citing a short term memory lapse.

Note the superb Green condition of the course reflecting the enormous amount of work by Greenkeeper, Doug Turner, and his merry army of volunteers who present the course in fantastic condition. The recent rains have also been a blessing; may you all enjoy your golf in the cooler weather.
