Iluka men’s golf
Golf fields were swelled at the weekend with visitors from Ocean Shores, Yamba, Woolgoolga and Canungra on Saturday and from Casino on Sunday.
The contingent of 16 players from Ocean Shores were on their annual pilgrimage to compete internally for the “Don Cup” and to sponsor the day’s individual stroke event.
Locals dominated the major placings with Tom Lindsay showing the way with a 65 nett from Bob Oddy on 66.
The best of the visitors was Vic Heron from Yamba the best of three players on 67 nett, the others being Peter Gleeson and Vice Captain Peter McCurtayne who recorded a fine 73 off the stick.
Visitors won all three nearest the Pins – Yamba’s Garry Downes on 1/10 and Ocean Shores players Mick Short and Mark Smith on 6/15 and 8/17.
Ball winners were Jim Cazalet 68, Noel Chambers 69, Mark Smith(OS) 70, Jim Wride 70, Sam McDonald 71, John Whitlock (OS) 71, Neil Grady 71, Danny Mortison 71, Mick James (OS) 72, Larry McKenzie (Y) 72, Jack Palaszczuk 72, Garry Richards (OS) 72, John Williams 72 and Geoff Prentice 72.
The rain on Sunday morning didn’t deter 26 players from the Casino Social Golf Club taking to the course.
Equally undeterred were the large number of Iluka Club members who were in attendance at the Annual General Meeting.
Office bearers elected were: President – Graeme Lynn; Vice President – Sue Burgess; Treasurer – Geoff Turner; Captain – Chris Richards; Directors – Graeme Lockyer, Barry Dunne, James Wride, Jan Ellery and Bob Oddy.
The Match Committee remains unchanged with Peter McCurtayne as Vice Captain, plus James Wride, Bob Wissink and John Lloyd.
The meeting voted unanimously to confer Life Membership on two club stalwarts in Frank Poore and John Caldwell.
This week the Vets played a Single Stableford yesterday and today we have the ladies playing a Single Stableford for the Laurice Poore trophy.
Saturday is the monthly medal Stroke event in three grades sponsored by the Anchorage Holiday Perk, Col Kempshall and Iluka Quality Meats.
Next Tuesday the Vets play their monthly medal and Round 7 of their championships, with sponsorship by LJ Hooker.
The members’ badge draw wasn’t won last Friday night and has jackpotted to $1,450 this Friday.
