Iluka Women’s Bowls Club enjoyed success in more ways than one during its recent two-day Head of The River Classic Triples.

Not only did the event run smoothly in fine weather for the five games of three bowl triples, but Iluka players featured in the first prize place and in round winners.

Visitors from Clarence River District, Ballina, Alstonville, Inverell and our regular annual visitors from Victoria made up the 24 teams that competed.

IWBC is very grateful to our extremely generous sponsors. Without their support, our carnival would not attract the many teams who make the trip and several who return year after year.

Our sponsors were Iluka Bowls Club Ltd., Lisa and Jack LAW, L.J. Hooker, IGA Iluka, Anchorage Holiday Park, Clarence Head Caravan Park, Iluka Motel, Iluka Pharmacy, Iluka Quality Meats and Clarence River Fishermen’s Co-op.

After lunch on the 2nd day, the raffle of the set of bowls and the two wine hampers was drawn. The fortunate winners were, set of bowls – Julie Saunders and wine hampers – Lee Betts.

The Iluka Women’s Bowls Club and members had contributed many other prizes for the general raffle which also included vouchers from our many sponsors.

We would like to thank all the players over the two days for their very generous support of our raffles, it was quite overwhelming, and we are very grateful.

The round winners were:

Round 1: Bev Murray, Annette Williams & Dawn Lawson.

Round 2: Candice Nixon, Anna Bunn, &Merle King.

Round 3: Michelle Swan, Pam Kennedy, Lyn Briggs.

Round 4: Yvonne Eckhardt, Glenda Ritchie, & Caroline Broad.

Round 5: Helen Atkinson, Monica Parker, Lois Duncan.

During the two-day competition, only one team had a clean sweep of five winning games and were clear winners with 137 points and a winning margin of an amazing 57 points.

First Tanya Ware, Kim Mogler and Kaylene Toovey.

A tussle between second and third place was decided in the final round when the team from Ballina was defeated for the first time and was then overtaken by the team from Maclean who became our second-place winners.

SecondJudy Parkes, Wendy Haslum & Lee Rae on 118 points with a margin of 44 points.

Third Sheree Skennar, Pauline Johns and Christine Albany (Ballina).

Their final result was 114 points with a margin of 23 points.

Sincere congratulations to all our winners and to the IWBC ladies’ management committee and helpers – especially, the executive positions of President Ann, Secretary Ros and Treasurer Di, who worked tirelessly to make our carnival such a success once again.
