A High Tea, hosted by Grafton Midday Rotary on August 6, raised $9000 to go towards purchasing specialist equipment for the Grafton Base Hospital (GBH) Maternity Ward.

More than 100 people attended the event at Vines @ 139 Fitzroy Street, Grafton, with many participants generously opening their wallets in support of the occasion.

Event organiser Patty Hewitt was full of praise and appreciation when she shared the total amount raised from the afternoon with the Clarence Valley Independent on August 11.

“After everything that has happened in recent years, the Grafton community continues to be so supportive of local events and fundraisers,” she said proudly.

“The local businesses in particular, they are always so generous.

“Even after the High Tea, two people came forward with $190 in cash donations, which was so wonderful.

“There are so many people to thank, because without them, we would never have raised so much money for the Maternity Ward.”

Ms Hewitt said Wrapped With Love (blanket), Herman Claassens (bottle of McLaren Vale Shiraz), Patricia’s Hair Salon (clutch bag), Karen Hackett (serving platter), Gai Bailey (3D painting), Anne-Maree Solway (beauty products), Jeannie Crispin (crocheted rug), Sweet Sisters Boutique (handbag), Monica Jeffs (portable CD player), and Serenity (accessories for the home), graciously donated raffle prizes for the High Tea, which were highly sought after, while Sweet Wattle Flower Farm donated beautiful bouquets which lovingly adorned the tables.

Ms Hewitt also wished to thank Harvey’s Jewellers for selling tickets prior to the event, Vines @ 139 Fitzroy Street, Grafton, and their staff for catering to participants, and members of Grafton Midday Rotary who volunteered their time to help make the High Tea a success.

“It’s wonderful what can be achieved when people come together,” she said.
