Heather Roland – tireless worker for tourism

I’m sure many people will join me in wishing Heather and Peter Roland many healthy and happy years in Sydney as they relocate from Grafton to be closer to family in their retirement (DEX 25/8/18).

Heather was such a tireless worker for her community and the list of her achievements is quite incredible. She was very proud to serve as an alderman on Grafton City Council for a number of years where she was also elected deputy Mayor.

Somehow Heather found the time to represent the council on the board-of-management of the Clarence River Tourist Association (CRTA) while I was managing the Association. These were the days when the business community and the councils worked so effectively together to build our tourism industry and to service the needs of our visitors…..and it worked so well. We acquired government land, built a magnificent visitor information centre and won so many awards for our activities. I worked with many council delegates in my 20 years with the CRTA but Heather Roland stands out as one of the most loyal and effective during that time.

In recent years the Clarence Valley Council has chosen to destroy everything created by the CRTA but the efforts and achievements of people like Heather for local tourism should not be forgotten.
