Happy Paws Haven Volunteers needed!

31st March 2020

A lot has happened since last week, Happy Paws Haven is an essential service and we urgently need volunteers. It is very easy to be socially distanced from others here as we are working with animals and we have ensured that the tasks are split up into single areas for each person BUT we urgently need help especially with the dogs any day of the week.

Having gotten through all the challenges we have faced over the last 14 years we would hate to have to close due to the tightening of everyone’s belts due to the virus crisis. All donations regardless how small are appreciated and with the end of financial year not very far away, all donations over $2 are tax deductable. We really need your help to survive and continue to save the lives of the cats and dogs of the Clarence Valley and beyond. Please help if you can.

Over the many years HPH has operated, we have rehomed thousands of animals and we have remained viable. But the financial demands of last year have brought us to our knees. To continue to operate we are asking for your help. We need your assistance to get us through this time. It is all about the animals and we want to keep being there for them. There is marketing, maintenance, electricity, phones etc etc. It costs us about $200K per year to operate and the animals get the best we can give, all funds are from the generous contribution of our donors and we are primarily run by volunteers. If everyone just donated $2 or $5 and they also asked their friends to do the same, we would be able to get our vet bills up to date and to hopefully renovate the facilities for the dogs and cats which they deserve.

Please spread the word as we really do need your help! Either through PayPal using our email address happypawshaven@bigpond.com or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible! Thank you. We are an ACNC endorsed registered charity. Our ABN is 79928920087, CFN 23496

We urgently need more volunteers!

We URGENTLY need extra help on the week-ends as we are very short!

We have a volunteering at Happy Paws Haven Facebook Group so that our volunteers past, present and future can share their experience while volunteering at Happy Paws Haven, with the hope that more people may assist us and our animals.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/795406837560903/

If anyone who is in Grafton or nearby we really need help urgently. If you could help by asking if anyone is able to volunteer even just 3-4 hours on one day a week would be great. Maybe animal lovers who don’t have a family nearby, could come and spend time helping us with the animals at Happy Paws Haven. Any time from NOW would be wonderful. We are open seven days a week as usual from 0930 to 1530, our hours are slightly shorter during winter as we put the animals to bed and rug the grey hounds.

We are as always looking for volunteers who are passionate about animals. Please could youhelp us to find some more volunteers. Clarence Valley Volunteering is trying to assist us too. We urgently need additional volunteers to help us care for the animals, walk the dogs, groom the cats and to share their love. Dress in your oldest clothes, jeans and a T-shirt is good, with work boots or sneakers, bring a snack and a drink! Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory!

We need people to help with office data entry skills and admin skills.

We need people to help with our fund raisers for the love animals.

There are all sorts of things that need to be done….

And every bit of help counts! Come and visit to see what we do.

Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care.

Rescues and Surrenders

We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know! We are still getting lots and lots of calls daily asking for help and we are turning most of them away as we have not the funds and volunteers at the moment to take any more. It is all about our capacity to care and we are at our limit currently.

Adoptions

We have had a record number of dog adoptions over the week-end, let’s hope they all stay in their homes when this is all over, 28 dog adoptions and 9 cat adoptions this year so far which is a great start to the year. We have been busy showing people our beautiful animals as a holiday activity which is great.

Cats and Kittens for adoption this week:

We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is 251000043

Riva is a member of Rianne’s beautiful litter of five kittens. Four are torti girls and Rico who has already got a home is the only boy. When we found them, all the queens were pregnant and we just did not know what to do. So we caught all the kittens and the queens and put them into foster care. They were desexed and we kept all the kittens. The queen we kept; Rianne is a lovely black fluffy young cat and very affectionate, demanding loves cuddles and is happy to be stroked and picked. She is a very beautiful loving cat as are her beautiful children. They are all desexed microchipped and immunised now ready for their new homes. 991001000624562

Noleta is a member of the N-Team. In the beginning of September 2017, a beautiful cat called Noelene was bought in as her owner had abandoned her when they moved. She gave birth to six beautiful kittens. When Noelene became sick we had to hand feed her babies until she recovered, then she took back the role of mum happily. The babies as a result are extremely affectionate, well socialised, playful, inquisitive mischievous loving young cats and ready to be rehomed as all have been desexed, microchipped and immunised including Noelene. 991003000082252

Kimi came to us with her mother and four siblings early in 2017. Her mother was found on a vacant property with no form of identification and no one knowing where she came from so we called her Kinki as she had a kink in her tail and some of the offspring do too! Kimi is a beautiful black and white teenage female who has come from a lovely extremely affectionate family. She is gentle loving active very playful cat but who has been desexed, vaccinated and micro-chipped ready for her new home as are her whole family. 991003000002520

Dogs for adoption for this week:

We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043

May I introduce you to Linc who is one of a litter of four males. They were reluctantly surrendered by their owner not long ago. They are all beautiful pups who survived parvo earlier this year. They all have really lovely natures, are very smart, they are border collie, cattle either kelpie or koolie crosses whose parents got together when their owner was away towards the end of last year, resulting in their birth just before Christmas 2019. They are social young dogs as they love being with people and happily play with other young dogs. They need to go to puppy pre-school and to dog training as all young dogs do. They are immunised, desexed, micro-chipped, and regularly treated for all common canine parasites. 900079000630617

Nadia is a member of the N-Team, a litter of seven pups, were surrendered when they were about 7-8 weeks old. They are border collie bull Arab or Dane cross with soft natures. They are a little wary, slightly timid with people so need time to gain their trust and more socialising. They love playing with other dogs. They need an owner who is gentle and patient. Nadia is fully grown and is a magnificent looking dog but would probably better with a male dog as a friend and playmate. She gets excited to meet people, often barks when they arrive, and may sometimes shy away at first. She is a really lovely natured young dog. Although she has a quiet and gentle nature, she will need regular exercise and some mental stimulation as she is very intelligent. She can be a very playful young dog who still needs some training, at first at home and then slowly introduced to the outside. She has had all her vaccinations, dental, been desexed and microchipped so is ready for her new. There are four of these beautiful dogs left as three have already found homes. 943094320462370

May I introduce you to Rigby, a lovely young male, of the R-team who came as a litter at the beginning of February and they were about six weeks old. The owner could not afford to feed them or look after them. Mum was a cairn terrier cross and dad we think was a cattle cross. They are beautiful mischievous, playful, gorgeous, healthy pups ready for puppy pre-school and dog training. They all have something from each of their parents either scruffy faces and or cattle dog spots and colours. They have been desexed, micro-chipped, immunised, and regularly treated for parasites. 900079000630527
