Happy Paws Haven Update

A lot has happened since last week, Happy Paws Haven is an essential service and we urgently need volunteers. It is very easy to be socially distanced from others here as we are working with animals and we have ensured that the tasks are split up into single areas for each person BUT we urgently need help especially with the dogs any day of the week BUT mainly on the week-ends. In this world of social distancing we are asking people who would like to adopt an animal from us to make an appointment so that we only have one or two people of the same family here at any time and so far this is working very well.

Having gotten through all the challenges we have faced over the last 14 years we would hate to have to close due to the tightening of everyone’s belts due to the virus crisis. All donations regardless of how small are appreciated and with the end of financial year not very far away, all donations over $2 are tax deductable. We really need your help to survive and continue to save the lives of the cats and dogs of the Clarence Valley and beyond; please help if you can.

Over the many years HPH has operated, we have rehomed thousands of animals and we have remained viable. But the financial demands of last year have brought us to our knees. To continue to operate we are asking for your help. We need your assistance to get us through this time. It is all about the animals and we want to keep being there for them. There is marketing, maintenance, electricity, phones etc. It costs us about $200K per year to operate and the animals get the best we can give, all funds are from the generous contribution of our donors and we are primarily run by volunteers. If everyone just donated $2 or $5 and they also asked their friends to do the same, we would be able to get our vet bills up to date and to hopefully renovate the facilities for the dogs and cats which they deserve.
Please spread the word as we really do need your help! Either through PayPal using our email address happypawshaven@bigpond.com or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc. All donations over $2 are tax deductible! Thank you. We are an ACNC endorsed registered charity! Our ABN is 79928920087, CFN 23496

We urgently need more volunteers!
We URGENTLY need extra help on the weekends as we are very short!
We have a volunteering at Happy Paws Haven Facebook Group so that our volunteers, past, present and future can share their experience while volunteering at Happy Paws Haven, with the hope that more people may assist us and our animals.  www.facebook.com/groups/795406837560903

If anyone who is in Grafton or nearby, we really need help urgently. If you could help by asking if anyone is able to volunteer even just 3-4 hours on one day a week would be great. Maybe animal lovers who don’t have a family nearby, could come and spend time helping us with the animals at Happy Paws Haven. Any time from NOW would be wonderful. We are open seven days a week as usual from 0930 to 1530, our hours are slightly shorter during winter as we put the animals to bed and rug the grey hounds.

We are as always looking for volunteers who are passionate about animals. Please could you help us to find some more volunteers. Clarence Valley Volunteering is trying to assist us too. We urgently need additional volunteers to help us care for the animals, walk the dogs, groom the cats and to share their love. Dress in your oldest clothes, jeans and a T-shirt is good, with work boots or sneakers, bring a snack and a drink! Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory!

We need people to help with office data entry skills and admin skills.
We need people to help with our fund raisers for the love animals.
There are all sorts of things that need to be done….
And every bit of help counts. Come and visit to see what we do.
Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care!

Happy Paws Haven Volunteers and Members meeting

Due to the virus and the current conditions we have postponed all future meetings for the foreseeable future.

Cats and kittens for adoption this week:

We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is 251000043

Beth

Beth was found at the Grafton Showground by some campers who had been feeding her and her family back in 2015. She is a beautiful affectionate loving silver tabby with the dots of a Bengal. She was a wonderful mother to not only her babies but to others as well. We would love to find a special loving home for her. She has been desexed, chipped, vaccinated, wormed, heart worm treated and de-flead – 900164001156020.

Carter

Carter is a member of the C-team who were rescued in Maclean by a foster carer over a number of days at the end of October 2016, Mum named Cara by the foster carer’s son was found in a garage as the owner was packing to move out. She had a small dog and she worried whether he might have a go at Cara and her family of very young kittens. They stayed in care until they were able to be desexed, immunised and chipped. Carter is a friendly affectionate young cat when he chooses to be, demanding of strokes and attention at the others expense. He is a lovely gentle young male. He has been immunised, desexed and micro-chipped – 991003000002508.

Jacci

Jacci is the last of a litter who came to us at the beginning of 2016. They had a very tough start and we were not sure if they would survive. They all have grown into lovely strong healthy beautiful affectionate cats. Jacci would love to follow in the footsteps of her brothers and sisters and find a loving forever home of her own. She loves her food and is a tad overweight. She has a mind of her own, loves being stroked, will come up for a cuddle but prefers not to be picked up. She would be a lovely companion cat for an older person. She would also be fine in an adult or semi adult household. She would be worried about little child trying to pick her up. She has been desexed, immunised, micro-chipped, flead, wormed and vet checked like all the animals here at Happy Paws Haven – 943094320432533.

Dogs for adoption for this week:

We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our rehoming number is 251000043.

Dolly & Rig

Dolly and Rig are brother and sister who came to us as the owners were moving and were not able to take them with them. They are American Bull Dogs, with lovely natures. They seem to get on reasonably well with other dogs but would be best suited in a home that does not have another dog. They can be split up but as they have grown up together it might be better if they stay together. Both are desexed microchipped and immunised – 953010001797217 and 953010001797229.

Millie

Millie is a border collie with a little Lab retriever we were told, a lovely young female. The owner could not afford to feed and keep her anymore. She is a beautiful, playful gorgeous, healthy young girl ready for some dog training. She is very smart and active, wants to learn new things to do all the time. She needs an active home where she can run and play, preferably without chickens as she loves to herd them. She has been de-sexed, micro-chipped, immunised, and regularly treated for parasites. 900079000630534

Red

Hi, my name is Red, I am not entirely sure what breeds my parents were, some say there might be a little bit of Lab, a little bit ridgeback and who knows what else. I love people, their kids and I like being with my mate Sirus and most other dogs. I prefer not to share with a bitch unless I have too. I love to play with toys and run in the park but I am not overly active, I sit when I am told and come to my name, sometimes I even shake hands but I have been told we can’t do the at the moment. I have been de-sexed, only last weekend. I am microchipped, immunised and been treated for the usual parasites. 900079000630579
