Happy Paws Haven

We are still looking for volunteers. We have an excellent cat team, but our dog volunteers are intermittent due to many factors, mainly due to our volunteers getting jobs which is great for them but now they longer have time to help us. We are urgently in need of some handy people to help us renovate the dog cabins and cattery, this is really urgent. We have the second yard and cabin to renovate, a shed to build, the cattery to fix up and the outside enclosure to finish. We need to go through each yard, fix all the cabins including their ventilation systems and fence stays before the really hot weather hits us.

Rescues and surrenders

We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know! Our restrictions are not only financial but also due to vet availability. We are restricting our capacity to keep our numbers down due to Covid and the impact on our donations. Our numbers in care are being maintained,

Cats and kittens for adoption this week

We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is R251000043

Carlos is a member of the C-team who were rescued in Maclean by a foster carer over a number of days at the end of October 2016, Mum named Cara by the foster carer’s son was found in a garage as the owner was packing to move out. She had a small dog and she worried whether he might have a go at Cara and her family of very young kittens. They stayed in care until they were able to be desexed, immunised and chipped. Carter is a friendly affectionate young man when he chooses to be, demanding of strokes and attention at the others expense. He is a lovely gentle young man. He has been immunised, desexed and micro-chipped. 991003000002541

My name is Erla, I was dumped in a box with 10 other kittens and our mother outside one of the committee members house. She had lots of cats of her own and just could not afford to take on all of us as well so we went into foster care. I have had my operation and all my needles with the others from the kitten house and now we are ready to find wonderful loving homes. We are all loving friendly affectionate young teenage cats waiting for a loving home. My microchip: 900079000382722

Tiggi, and her 2 sisters were found in a park near some flats, they were taken to a pet shop who said they could not take then as they all have a twisted or kinked tail thus were not perfectly normal kittens. The vet has said it is probably inherited and as it is not affecting their behaviour or bodily functions they are absolutely fine. They are a little shy when they first meet strangers but as soon as they get to know them they turn into beautiful affectionate smoochy cats. They are normal playful curious mischievous young cats. They have been desexed, micro-chipped and immunised ready to be adopted. 900079000382734

Dogs for adoption for this week

We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043

Coco came to us as a last resort. She does not like small animals and can’t be trusted with them. She is absolutely fine with humans of all sizes although a little weary at first. She is also fine with dogs her own size. She is a lovely gentle girl with a very loyal nature. When she trusts you and comes out of her shell she can be playful loving and a joy to be with. She is walks well on a lead but she unsure of herself as she has very rarely been out of her yard. She needs to continue her socialisation to gain confidence with other people. She would make a loving companion. She is desexed immunised chipped and treated for all the normal parasites. 953010000236124

Hank was surrendered as his owner could no longer have him with her where she lived as she was about to move. He is a lovely natured dog, very needy, needs to be in your face and with you most of the time. He is getting a lot better while he has been here. He gets on well with other dogs, full of beans, loves to play. He is great with older kids. He would not knowingly harm anything but in his exuberance might knock a younger child over. He is a very loving affectionate boy. He is not good on his own for long periods as like all smart young children he gets bored when left to his own devices. He is desexed, immunised, chipped and treated regularly for all the normal parasites found in our area. 991003000829335

Kevin came with his brother from a trainer near Casino. Their owner and trainer is elderly, has retired so to help him out we volunteered to take two of his beautiful boys. Like all greyhounds they love to have a play and zoom first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon. In between they prop and stop becoming couch potatoes. These two young men are well behaved, quiet, affectionate, gentle loving dogs. They would be very suitable as a companion to anyone regardless of their age and wellbeing. They are great pets for anyone with a bad back as you don’t need to bend down to groom them or give them a stroke or a gentle pat. They should not be homed with small animals but they love humans. They love being around humans and are low maintenance dogs as they do not require much exercise. They have been desexed, immunised and have a micro-chip. They also have been wormed and treated for all our common parasites. 956000008689292
