Happy Paws Haven

Last year has been a very difficult one for Happy Paws Haven and we are struggling now to stay afloat financially. We desperately need to raise funds to pay off a large vet bill. Normally our vet bill consists of anticipated expenses such as vaccinations, animal checks, dentals, heart worm checks and desexing. This year we have had to deal with pups with parvo, Ruby with pyrometra, Freya and Bella with serious and completely unanticipated leg injuries. Because we are a no kill sanctuary, we invest in the lives of all our animals. But this year it has come at a substantial cost.

Over the many years HPH has operated, we have rehomed thousands of animals and we have remained viable. But the financial demands of last year have brought us to our knees. To continue to operate we are asking for your help. We need your assistance to get us through this time. It is all about the animals and we want to keep being there for them. There is marketing, maintenance, electricity, phones etc etc. It costs us about $250K per year to operate and the animals get the best we can give, all funds are from the generous contribution of our donors and we are primarily run by volunteers. If everyone just donated $2 or $5 and they also asked their friends to do the same, we would be able to get our vet bills up to date and to hopefully renovate the facilities for the dogs and cats which they deserve.

Please spread the word as we really do need your help. Either through PayPal using our email address or via our bank, the Bendigo Community Bank in South Grafton BSB 633000, Account 130786031 and our account name is Happy Paws Haven Inc. All donations over $2 are tax deductible. We are an ACNC endorsed registered charity. Our ABN is 79928920087, CFN 23496

We urgently need more volunteers

We have a volunteering at Happy Paws Haven Facebook Group so that our volunteers past, present and future can share their experience while volunteering at Happy Paws Haven, with the hope that more people may assist us and our animals.

If anyone who is in Grafton or nearby we really need help urgently! If you could help by asking if anyone is able to volunteer even just 3-4 hours on one day a week would be great! Maybe animal lovers who don’t have a family nearby, could come and spend time helping us with the animals at Happy Paws Haven. Any time from NOW would be wonderful. We are open 7 days a week as usual from 0930 to 1530, our hours are slightly shorter during winter as we put the animals to bed and rug the grey hounds.

We are as always looking for volunteers who are passionate about animals! Please could you help us to find some more volunteers. Clarence Valley Volunteering is trying to assist us too! We urgently need additional volunteers to help us care for the animals, walk the dogs, groom the cats and to share their love. Dress in your oldest clothes, jeans and a T-shirt is good, with work boots or sneakers, bring a snack and a drink! Cuddling and playing with the animals is compulsory!

We need people to help with office data entry skills and admin skills.

We need people to help with our fund raisers for the love animals.

There are all sorts of things that need to be done….

And every bit of help counts. Come and visit to see what we do.

Come and help us with the animals and/or fundraising for their care.

Rescues and surrenders

We are trying to limit the number of animals being rescued as you know. We are still getting lots and lots of calls daily asking for help and we are turning them away as we have not the funds and volunteers at the moment to take any more. It is all about our capacity to care and we are at our limit currently.

Now for the cats and kittens for adoption this week:

We get all cats vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. We have adopted out well over 1200 cats over the last 12 years and only a very very small percentage having developed any illness as a result of the change in environment but now we are being extremely careful. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. Our Rehoming number is 251000043.

Miss Molly

Miss Molly was surrendered to us at the beginning of 2017 as she was found on a property with another female cat by people moving in who could not keep them as they had dogs and they were frightened that the dogs might kill them. One they had called Molly who is a pale apricot colour and the other was Mussicat with longer hair and more gingery in colour. These beautiful ginger girls were both pregnant, we found out later. Miss Molly had only two kittens which have grown up to be beautiful affectionate mischievous young cats like their mother and have found loving homes. Miss Molly has a mind of her own, she can be loving and affectionate and then she can be aloof with attitude. Miss Molly has been desexed, micro-chipped, immunised and regularly wormed! 943094320411143

Tala came from Lismore, she was found with another queen who had a litter which were found in extremely poor condition. We had to put the mother down as she had battled so hard to keep her babies alive she could hardly stand and her liver and kidneys were failing. The vet felt it was the best thing and kindest thing to do as she was just so very sick. Tala took over as a surrogate mum and bought up the kittens as if they were her own. When they were old enough our wonderful foster carer bought them to happy paws to have the vet work done. All the kittens were rehomed so it is Tala’s turn to find a very special home for a very special young lady. Tala has a lovely affectionate nature, gets on with other cats. She loves living indoors, out of the weather with a window ledge to watch the world go by. She has been desexed immunised and chipped and is ready for her special new home. 943094320466496

Nero is a member of the N-Team of 2016; Mum was surrendered as she was found near an abandoned house! Nero is a beautiful short hair white and black young cat with a very sweet quiet gentle nature, very affectionate and very friendly taking after his mum in temperament and nature. He is the last of the litter. He meets us at the door each morning waiting for us to say hello and stroke him. He is desexed, chipped and immunised ready for his new home. 991003000002503

Now for the Dogs for adoption for this week:

We get all dogs vet checked prior to adoption to make sure that we comply to the standards required by any pet shop. All our animals are microchipped, immunised and desexed as soon as possible after they arrive. All dogs are also tested to make sure that they do not have heart worm. We have rescued and adopted out well over 1300 dogs over the last 12 years. Our Rehoming number is 251000043

Blink is a special young man who came to us recently, he is about 2 years old. A young slightly shy Australian Cattle Dog. The people who surrendered him circumstances had changed and no long had the time he needed. They were both working full time and Blink was starting to get into mischief. He has a nice quiet nature, loves playing ball but is not obsessive about it. He would be great with school aged kids, a loyal companion and friend. He seems fine with all the dogs we have introduced him to so far. He is a little cautious with humans until he gets to know you and then is absolutely fine. He has been desexed microchipped and immunised. 953010002009360

Stella Bella

Stella Bella is an unusual young lady who has travelled a long way in her very young life. She was rescued up in the Kimberley’s from an camp as a pup, we have no idea her bread mix except that she is very smart playful young girl who has travelled right across this continent. She is well socialised with people and other dogs, very friendly, playful and loving. She is desexed immunised microchipped and has had regular parasite and flea treatments. 900079000630609

Brogue came to us as his owner could no longer keep him. He is a Maremma cross. He gets on with other dogs but is better when on his own. He needs an owner to be fair but firm and to have something for him to do as he is a very smart dog. He needs to be on a property where there is space or with someone that enjoys an active life as he can be his own worst enemy if he is bored with nothing to do. He is a beautiful boy who can be stubborn at times, he would love a young man to play with. Not long ago a dog was surrendered and was in the yard next to him, there was a locked gate between them but somehow Brogue’s leg court under the fence/gate and the other dog had a go at it which resulted in Brogue losing a toe. It is all completely healed and he is doing very well without it. Unlike a lot of Maremma’s, he loves being with humans so prefers not to be left alone for long periods of time.  He has been desexed chipped immunised and regularly treated for parasites including heart worm. 943094320462482
