Grafton Base Hospital is set for a massive $263 million upgrade if the NSW Nationals are returned to Government on 23 March and Clarence Nationals MP Chris Gulaptis is giving full credit to Clarence people power.

“Six months ago, this wasn’t on the Government’s radar, but since I launched my petition for the unprecedented upgrade, there has been an incredible surge of local popular opinion that the NSW Government simply could not ignore,” Mr Gulaptis said.

“This is a huge win for the Clarence Valley which future proofs our health needs. With more working families moving here thanks to big job boosters like Australia’s largest prison next year, it is critical we plan and build a hospital to cater for the next generation of locals,” Mr Gulaptis said.

“The massive new redevelopment of the Grafton Base Hospital, which is in addition to the $17.5 million already invested in the current upgrade of the hospital, ensures Clarence Valley patients get the best possible care with the least possible travel.

“It is the leverage that the Nationals in Government has that ensures we get our fair share in the Clarence and the rest of NSW. That is why I am proud to be a member of the Nationals team.”

Mr Gulaptis said he is keen to start the planning process as soon as possible.

“Not only do we need to get the infrastructure and facilities right, we also need to look at the services and health work force to best serve the residents of the Clarence Valley,” Mr Gulaptis said.

“This is about planning for and supporting the health needs and wellbeing of the Clarence Valley over the next few decades and I will work with health professionals, as well as members of the community, to make sure we get the hospital we deserve.

“It’s our time to have access to the best possible health care in a 21st century hospital,” he said.
