The Committee will be providing a delicious afternoon tea on our Opening Day on Wednesday next, February 17. We are looking forward to having as many of our players as possible remain for our presentations and treat. Our Four-Person Dropout Ambrose event will commence with a shotgun start at 8.30am.
Last Wednesday’s Stableford event attracted a great field of 33 starters despite the oppressive heat and humidity which made for tough playing conditions.
The best score for the day was returned by Elaine Shand with 34pts and she was awarded the winner’s “cheque” in Div 1. Cheryl Shanley placed 2nd with 33 on a c/b from playing partner Jen Townsend.
Div 2 saw Anna Bidstrup take the win on 33pts with Val Franey 2nd on 32 and Gai Leeson 3rd on 29. Balls were given to a score of 28pts. Anna was delighted to record a nice par for 4 pts on the 18th, her final hole for the round.
NTP winners were Narelle Butcher (1st), Marg Manahan (6th), Elaine Shand (10th) and Julie White (17th).
Joyce Brown had the misfortune or, some would say the good fortune, of having a bird deposit his droppings onto her back on the 17th hole. However, not to be deterred, Joycie went on to record a great par on the hole to earn herself four points.
The fun did not end there for Joyce’s group. Whether it was the lucky bird droppings or the excitement of the par, but Joyce’s battery died when she attempted to leave the 18th tee! So it was Lainey to the rescue, where she pushed and bumped Joyce all the way up the 18th fairway to the top of the hill enabling Joyce to complete her round.
Another “birdie” within the same group reported having a fish during her round on the 15th hole and then proceeded to cast her tee shot on the 16th straight into the water. A tee shot which she, together with the other two players in her group, repeated on Saturday morning.
Captain Noeline recorded a nice win on Saturday with 33pts on a c/b from Courtney Fuller. Ann Gibbons placed 3rd on 32 and the balls were awarded to Shirley, Janette and Jen. The NTP on the 6th was also taken out by Jen with the best tee shot of the 15 participants.
Saturday also saw the final round of the Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency Competition. We will have the announcement and presentation of trophies to our top placegetters in this event on our Wednesday Opening Day. Our thanks go to Bendigo Bank for their ongoing support and sponsorship of this popular competition.
Next Saturday, February 13, will be our Opening Day for the Saturday players where a 4BBB event, with a draw for partners, will be contested. Ladies intending on entering this competition should also place their names in the computer as soon as possible. Shirley Goodger will once again be the kind sponsor of this event.
