Wednesday February 26
We played a 18 hole Stableford again with heavy course conditions. With the grass growing and the rough getting longer there was plenty of ball searching for the erratic shots that didn’t want to stay on the fairways. Bunkers were out of play, due to water damage. Of the 48 starters who contested the event sponsored by The Flame Tree Coffee Shop, the overall winner on the day was the inform golfer, Jen Townsend with 34 points. Division 1 winner, Kathy McMullan had 31 points 1 point better than runner-up Millie Harris on 30; a countback was required for third and fourth place (27 points) with Janette Blair taking third and Ann Gibbons fourth. Division 2 went to Julie Bennett on 25 points from June Newsome 24 with third, Gai Leeson 20 and fourth Bev Snowdon 19. NT. on the 1st was Glenda Chad, 6th Brenda Cooper, 10th Kaye Murdoch and 17th Millie Harris.
Friday February 28
The women played an 18 hole Stableford with the winner with 32 points going to Heather Purtill, runner-up Peg James 29pts and third Marianne Mannell 27. Balls went down to 22 or better. A visitor, Annette Cross, was welcomed and enjoyed our course.
Saturday February 29
Also saw an 18 hole Stableford played with 22 starters. Winner on the day was Heather Purtill (11) 33 points, runner-up Maddie McKee (9) 31 on a countback from Jen Townsend (17). Jen also got the nod for nearest the pin on the 10th. Balls went to Noeline Smith, Carol Toms, Kerry Harding, Ann Gibbons and Kate Thomson.
The scheduled February monthly medal that was to be played will now be rescheduled to a later date.
Monday March 2
The day saw the rescheduled 9 hole players Opening Day going ahead. The 4 person dropout Ambrose event is sponsored by Grafton Textiles, who have sponsored this event for the past several years.
The winning team was Sue Roberts, Ian Roberts, Irwin Perring and Sue Blake 31.3 for Brenda Cooper, Cheryl Benn, Jenny Porter & Donna West 32.4. Third place went to Heather Purtill, Jan Pilgrim, Graham Benn 32.5, fourth place to Kerry Harding, Kim Perl, Colette Abrahall & Tanielle Thwaites 34.3. A lovely morning tea was supplied by the players.
Wednesday March 4
Our women play the 18 hole 4BBB Stableford, sponsored by Helen Hopwood and Gai Leeson, which incorporated the qualifying round for the Anne Bawden Four Ball Match Play Knockout and 12 of the required 16 team event qualified, so a few lucky pairings have had a bye in the first round.
Weather on the day was lovely and a little bit of run saw the 55 starters enjoy their golf. Winners for the Helen Hopwood and Gai Leeson Trophy were Sue Roberts and Sonya Baker with 41 points on a countback from Janette Blair and Kathy McMullan also 41, third place Marianne Mannell and Noeline Smith 40.
NTP on the 1st went to Shirley Avery and Heather Miller and the 10th to Judy McFarlane and Marion Ross. Ball went down to 38 points. Please note for those players that will continue in the Anne Bawden Match Play Knockout, due to green renovations being carried out on Monday March 16 there will be no games played that day. If wanting to play Tuesday 17, play will be from 12.30pm onwards. Thursday matches can be played anytime. Friday play can be scheduled after the womens Friday competition. All matches to be booked through the Pro Shop (Mark Harvison).
Friday March 6
Play was an 18 hole Stableford with 18 starters. Winner was Brenda Cooper 32 points from her mum Jean Milne on 28 on a countback from Julie Bennett 28.
NTP went to Sue Byrnes from a draw of cards. Ball to players with 24 points or better. Also beginning was the eclectic, birdies and chip-in competitions. After golf a surprise luncheon was held for Bev Snowdon who celebrated her 90th birthday with all her golfing fraternity golfers. What a surprise it was for Bev and we all hope she enjoys her golf for a few more years.
Saturday March 7
A field of 20 starters played a 18 hole Stroke incorporating the 1st WGNSW Medal, the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute Trophy, Round 1 Ken Casson Aggregate. The course was well and truly wet after heavy rainfall Friday afternoon our winner was Hollie Fuller with 74, runner-up Carol Toms 75 on a countback from Sonya Baker 75. Nearest the Pin on the 1st Janeen Roberts. Balls went down to 81 nett on a countback.
