Grafton women – great weather and great golf

At the women’s committee meeting on March 26 it was decided the program of games was to be suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.

The Committee have had to make some hard decisions, but when the restrictions are lifted we will go back to the program, until then the committee are looking at how they can re-introduce some of the program that is fair to all members and still comply to the restrictions made by GolfNSW and State Government. Please respect these changes as we have never had to deal with a pandemic of this magnitude and lock downs, as we are following all Golf Australia rules on COVID -19.

If you have any concerns, issues or questions, please contact president, Sue or captain, Janette. Email addresses for contact are on the white board in the women’s room.

As the weather continues to be particularly good, and so did the scores for Wednesday last with 55 starters. The overall winner with a top score of 38 points was our lowest handicapper, Hollie Fuller, a marvellous round with 9 pars and 3 birdies. Wow and she is only 15 years old. Julie White was the next best with 36.

Division 1 winner – Hollie Fuller 38; r/up – Heather Robinson 35 on c/b; 3rd – Peg James 35.

Division 2 winner – Judy McFarlane 35; r/up – Ann Gibbons 34; 3rd – Noeline Smith 33.

Division 3 winner – Julie White 36; r/up – Julie McKee 33; 3rd – Sue Byrnes 32.

Ball rundown was 31 point on a c/b.

Friday saw 28 starters contested our 18-hole Stableford event. The day started with a very lovely cool morning.

Division 1 winner – Kim Wiblen (Maclean) 36 points on a c/b from Jan Patterson also on 36.

Division 2 winner – Judy McFarlane, who is continuing to play good golf and runner-up Sonya Baker.

Balls went to those with 31 on a c/b.

Visitor for the day was Kim Wiblen from Maclean who came to catch up with her Grafton golf friends and to have a game on our new grassed fairways, as her last game with us was well before Christmas. This obviously suited Kim as she was the winner of the day.

Last Saturday an 18-hole Stableford had 20 starters who hit off in beautiful golfing weather, bringing on some good scores.

Winner of the day was Noeline Smith with a top round of 38pts; r/up was Heather Purtill 35 on a c/b; 3rd was Chris Danvers, with a lot of huffing and puffing as her ball kept refusing to drop in the hole, also with 35.

Ball rundown to 33.

Monday 9-hole Stableford saw 24 starters turning up for their game. Keep coming, and do not forget to invite your friends.

Division 1 winner – Judy Pullinger with 14 points; r/up Sue Roberts with 13.

Division 2 winner – Meredith Corrigan 17 points on a c/b from Kay Strong also on 17.

Due to COVID-19 the Kay McLennan Muscular Dystrophy Day for the McLennan Family will be held on May 13.  We would love to see you wear something red and white. This day was always very dear to Kay’s heart to support this foundation. A donation box will be in the Pro shop for contributions on the day.  Please support Kay’s day.
