Grafton women golf
Last week saw a change in Saturday golf with women now being able to nominate from 6.30am to 12.30pm and therefore their results will not be done till the following Wednesday, but their scores will be sent to golflink on the Saturday. This will enable players to have the correct handicap it wanting to play on the following Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s. It will take time to come to terms with this new concept.
Also, the week saw the Annual Women’s Golf Northern Rivers District tournament take place at Casino Golf Club on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Grafton had a fine contingent of player represent our Club, and happily we can report a few in the winning circle, they being Helen Packwood taking out the Open/closed Div 3 36 hole Stableford for the Irene Fuller Salver. Janette Blair with partner Sue Reguson from Coolangatta Tweed Heads were the scratch foursomes winners and Peg James and Jan Patterson were Div 1 runners-up in the nett foursomes. Not winning on the golf course, but Chrissy Danvers won the raffle, which meant she bought home a prize too. Next year the Tournament will be held closer to home at Maclean Golf Club.
At home the women played a 18 hole V’s Par event. This game is only played once in our golfing calendar as it is not a popular game to play. Sponsor for the day was Greenhouse Hair Salon, South Grafton. We had 54 players who enjoyed the run on the course. Div 1 went to Jen Townsend +2, Div 2 Carlie McKenzie +2 and Div 3 Tess Bloomer +3. It was also the July Stephen Donnelly Financial Services Aggregate final which went to Norma Carter with 76 points. Winner of the July Allure Derma Skin Clinic was also Norma Carter with 67 nett; congratulation to all the other winners on the day.
Friday saw a return of the travelling golfers, who went to Casino, for our 18 hole Stableford we had 36 starters and the Div 1 went to Heather Purtill 37, Julie White Div 2 36 and for Div 3 Trish Clarke 34 on a countback; nice to see Trish back to golf. Monday was the usual 9 hole competition with Nettie Bennett taking out division 1 with 18 points and Kim Perl the division2.
