Grafton U3A to celebrate Seniors Week

Our March guest presenter is U3A member Ken Woodward. He has recently self-published a book of original poems titled “Revenge of the Redneck” that was officially launched on 7 February at a well-attended event at Ulmarra. He is taking the opportunity to re-launch the book and recite a number of his original works at our March Jabberfest set down for March 10.

Our guest presenter for April will be U3A member Harry Jones, who will recount his family’s history of military service.

In connection with the NSW Seniors Festival, Grafton Library will be celebrating with an exciting event titled “ON RECORD” featuring live music, free BBQ and entertainment extending throughout the library.

Seniors from all over the region will display their remarkable talents. The event also offers a platform for community groups and organisations to connect with Seniors via information sessions, fun activities and membership opportunities and Grafton U3A will be one of the stallholders with members on hand extolling the joys of membership, distributing publicity brochures and course lists and photos and items of interest.

The Men’s Shed will also be represented and will have items on display created by the Shed’s artisans. The event will be held from 10am to 1:30pm (with a BBQ commencing at 9am). The BBQ provides a chance to enjoy a meal before festivities begin. A high tea will also be available later in the event.

U3A is the University of the Third Age – the age of active retirement coming after the ages of youth and work and home making. University is rather a loose term as there are no academic requirements for membership and no exams and new members are always most welcome.

Grafton U3A offers a range of courses/interest groups covering a wide spectrum of activities promoting learning for personal enjoyment and wellbeing. Keeping the brain active, making new friends and helping members to maximise their independence by remaining healthy and active for longer. Course and Interest Group details are available on the Grafton U3A website and the monthly newsletter “Jabber Journal” keeps members up to date. If you are considering membership of Grafton U3A and would like more information, please contact Bruce Carle on 0409 225 536.
