Grafton Singles knockout into finals stage
The finalist in the Grafton Undercover Storage Singles knockout have now been determined with Club Captain, Neil Hayward, to take on Phil Tarrant in that final. To qualify for the final, Neil had to knock over his regular playing partner and best mate, Darryl Toms, and as it turned out fairly easily 5 and 3. Phil did not have it quite so easy in the other semi final, finally getting over Michael Beehag 2 and 1. The scene is now set for a great final with both players in good form. Unfortunately only one of them can win the series and would be a brave individual to predict the outcome.
Last Saturday’s Living Turf Jacaranda 4BBB Stableford was taken out by a combination of visiting Armidale players, Peter Schaefer and Gary Hamilton with a outstanding score of 49 points. They had to overcome a near record field for this event, of almost 150 players to get the cash. A three way countback was required to sort out the runner-up positions. In the end it was the paring of James Wilks and Daniel Usher who were rewarded with the first runner-up spot, from Ray Hickey and Bruce Wotton. The unlucky pairing to miss out were Jason Casserly and Deano Hayes. All three teams recording 48 points. One team though, did not score all that well, rather surprising as one player plays off a 6 handicap and the other 10. It is not known how two ‘A’ graders could only score 30 points, they did play 18 holes. That score obviously would not win a pro-ball, however if your team recorded a score of 45 or better you have earned yourself one. Included in that list was our “birthday girl”, Trevor Townsend whose personal score of 39 points was the major contributor to his teams 45 points and resulting pro-ball.
Next weekend we have one of our more anticipated and popular tournaments, the Coca Cola Amatil and Tooheys Lion Natham 36 Hole Jacaranda Open. The event is conducted over both Saturday and Sunday with almost capacity fields for both days. As usual, to qualify for the 36 holes you must nominate for both days prior to hitting off on Saturday. This playing condition is in place to avoid players entering just for Saturday, playing a blinder than deciding to play Sunday in an attempt to win the series.
Intending summer competition players have until this Friday to enter their teams for 2015/2016 series. Teams are made up of 7 players and can be made up of either Male, female or mixed combinations with non playing members encouraged to take part. The competition can be played anytime between Sunday to Saturday over 9 holes under the Stableford format. Only the best 5 scores from each team in each weeks round robin competition will count. There will be a ball run down each week and a 9 hole shootout for the top ten men and women will conclude the series as well as the normal finals. Competition commences this Sunday with the team nomination forms on the Club notice board.
There are a couple of forthcoming events coming up which may require a little thought. Firstly we have the Grafton Men’s Veteran’s golfers presentation of trophies and Annual General Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 1st December. Activities will commence at 9.30am with a shotgun start and your golf will cost $20 as per normal, however a light refreshment food tray for each group will be included within that cost. Names must be entered in the computer to play on the day and a maximum of four players per group will apply. At the conclusion of play, presentations will take place which will be followed by the Annual General Meeting and election of officers. Nominations for the positions of President, Captain, Tournament Director and Committee are now being accepted with the nomination form on the Veteran’s notice board
Members of the T.G.I.F. are also advised that your next competition is scheduled for Friday 4th December. At that time your annual $10 membership fees will be due and payable. Ray Hopwood
