New furniture and bedding concept store to open in CBD  

  Grafton has long been established as a successful, regional business centre and recent State and Federal Government infrastructure investments look to be attracting new businesses to the CBD with MacLeod’s Furniture set to open their 1600sqm flagship store in the coming days. The renovated, air-conditioned premises at 72-78 Prince Street will stock furniture and bedding from the popular Beds R Us and Furniture Court brands that many Grafton locals would already be familiar with from shopping at MacLeod’s Coffs Harbour stores. As Andrew (owner), explains “We have been servicing the Grafton area from our Coffs stores for the last 14 years and so the opportunity to give Grafton its’ own store, with its own range certainly makes sense. Every one of the staff that we have employed is a Grafton local, our premises are owned by a local entity and the range has been influenced by what our Grafton customers have bought in the past and what our Grafton staff think will sell. It is an interesting concept as a business owner, to let the community direct key areas of the business, but based on the interest generated and warm welcome from the community so far, I believe it will work.” Of course, a new retailer is only a part of what Grafton can look forward to. The area should at least see an increase in consumer confidence through to 2019, as the planned 600 bed Lavadia correctional facility, bridge and highway upgrades are constructed. Hopefully other businesses will see value in investing in Grafton – particularly the CBD during this time, so that improvements in job creation and consumer confidence are sustained for many years to come.
