Grafton Senior Citizens – September meeting

Grafton Senior Citizens recently held September general meeting, attendance 59 members, apologies 21.

Guest speaker, Matt Cameron, an exercise physiologist, spoke about exercise for chronic conditions like diabetes, stroke, osteopenia, arthritis. He emphasised the need for regular exercise as we age, including walking, dancing, swimming and weights. Matt also spoke about the importance of a good diet, especially protein, like meat, leafy greens and nuts.

Birthday wishes to those celebrating during month. Best wishes to anyone on the sick list, including Rita Cowling, Sheelah Stenhouse and Bobbie Robinson.

Welcome to new member, Julie Skennar.

Correspondence in: Rescue magazine from Westpac; thank you card from Mary Austin following illness; invitation to Salvation Army Jacaranda Rally on October 30.

Correspondence out: letter to new member. Treasurer’s report tabled and accounts for payment authorised.

General business included: latest NSW & North Coast seniors papers available; another barbecue being held on Monday September 30 now on sale; thanks to Michael Beattie, a defribulator is being placed in seniors room; anyone wanting to play 500, if sufficient interest, it will be held at same time at euchre, on Friday afternoons; Christmas competition tickets are now on sale, and donation of grocery items for prizes will be welcome.

We had a very successful recent bus tour to Lake Macquarie. Winners of competition on trip: 1st M Clark; 2nd P. Flyght; 3rd J. Solomon.

Our next bus trip is a day trip to Yamba for river cruise to Harwood and return; the trip is full, but reserves will be noted. Our final trip for the year is a picnic at Mylestom on Friday November 22 and tickets have just gone on sale, with plenty of spare seats.

Trips for next year are now being considered.

Next general meeting is Tuesday October 8 starting at 10.30am and Stacey Kroenhert (osteoporosis & bone density) has been invited to be guest speaker.
