Grafton Senior Citizens – October meeting

Grafton Senior Citizens recently held their October general meeting, with an attendance of 47, and15 apologies.

Guest speaker, Jeff Smith, of I Scream, spoke of the history of ice cream, gelato, and sorbet, mentioning various companies that produced the confectionary, and the most popular flavours. Australia is third largest consumer of ice cream per head, after the USA and New Zealand. 

Birthday wishes to those celebrating, and best wishes to anyone sick, including Marie Rodgers, Jean Mitchell, Joan Schulz. 

Welcome new members Glenda Hunter-Blanch; Julie Berry; Yvonne Clarke; Judy Daniels.

Correspondence in: return thanks from the family of Win Jefferies; out: letters to new members.

General business: Christmas luncheon cancelled due to uncertainty of COVID restrictions. It is still planned to have our Christmas raffle, to be drawn at the December meeting and members encouraged to donate groceries for prizes.

NSW Regional Seniors travel card cannot be extended if unused due to COVID restrictions, so members are encouraged to use it for train, bus, taxi and car fuel, prior to expiry date.

Members are again warned to be wary of current scams, including email claiming to be Telstra, phone calls claiming to be Amazon, door knockers claiming to have exorbitantly priced left over filling for drive ways. 

Publicity: being placed in all on line & print local newspapers.

Bus trips: all cancelled for 2020, with plans to reschedule the same venues for 2021. More information should be available next meeting. 

Weekly activities: Members encouraged to support weekly activities, to ensure they continue.
