Grafton Senior Citizens

Grafton Senior Citizens recently held their February general meeting, first for 2019, with attendance of 92 and 16 apologies.

Best wishes to those celebrating birthdays and there is no-one on the sick list. Pat Kelly offered thanks for the get well card after the operation.

Our sincere sympathy to the family of Olive Hannah, who passed away in January.

Guest speaker, Cindy Grant, of Australian Hearing spoke about hearing loss. Many people who have a hearing problem delay getting a check, and some who have hearing aids don’t wear them. Australian Hearing conduct free hearing checks for those with pension cards.

Our first bus trip for year is on March 3 to Twin Towns for the stage show of Irish ballad singer, Daniel O’Donnell. All purchased tickets for this show have been sold, but reserves will be noted. Most final payments have been made.

Tickets for a day bus trip to The Farm, Byron Bay on April 5 have just gone on sale and there are still spare seats.

Tickets for a seven day coach tour to the Lake Macquarie area from August 16 are on sale, with some seats still available. Other tickets for trips will go on sale progressively.

Our October bus trip to Yamba, then a luncheon cruise to Harwood and return, is to be linked to the planned Clarence Valley 53 Islands Festival. Tickets will go on sale later in year.

General business: As part of Senior Citizens Week, Grafton seniors are having an open day on Thursday February 21 from 9am to 12noon, when prospective new members can view activities, and sign up as a member. This will coincide with a craft morning, and there will be a craft display, Mah-jong, euchre, a trading table and morning tea.

Mention was again made of scams and St George Bank has free copies of the ‘Little Black Book of Scams’… worth getting and reading.

Members are reminded to wear badges at all times at seniors activities and functions, so racecourse staff know you are there legally.

Members advised more items for trading table would be welcome.

Annual fees of $10 per person are now due.

Meeting competition winners: D. Schuhmacher; E. Milen; M. McKenzie; Y. Chard; J. Jones; R. Watkins; J. Schweizer; I. Parker.

Next general meeting, 10am on Tuesday March 12, with the AGM. There is no guest speaker due to us having two meetings.
