The club has had quite a number of activities this month, the highlight being our Melbourne Cup luncheon at the Copmanhurst Hotel. After an excellent two course meal, we watched the cup and some of us even cheered on the winner.
There was some disappointment, with some members drawing the same horse in each of two sweeps. But these soon changed to whoops of joy when new members, Pam Bonnet (both firsts) and Robyn Casson (both seconds) took the cash.
At our October general meeting at the GDSC, President Paula inducted three new members, Elizabeth Holdway, Kim Holdt and Ann Hindley. They brought our membership list to a total of 60.
Daphne McGregor won a voucher to Grafton Bookworld in the bring a friend promotion. Roz Chessell and Monica Jeffs won the Farmer Lou’s lucky door prize.
Ron Payne stood in as the guest speaker. He gave a presentation on travelling in modern capitalist Russia, focussing on Moscow, the Kremlin, the survival of the Russian Orthodox religion and St Petersburg.
Our next meeting will be at the GDSC at 10am on November 18. Members intending to attend our Christmas lunch should book at this meeting.
Prospective members should contact Paula Payne on 6642 8797.
