Grafton ladies play final round of Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency
Cheryl Shanley (playing off a handicap of 16), is certainly putting her stamp on this year’s Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency competition with some impressive scores and will no doubt feature prominently in the results, following a late surge last Wednesday which saw her come in as the day’s winner with a remarkable 40 points.
All indications are for an exciting final round on Wednesday of this week where many players are within striking distance of claiming one of the many prizes on offer from our generous sponsor, Bendigo Bank.
With the very dry and heatwave conditions this summer, we have witnessed many scores in the 40s and high 30s. Janet Croft has had an outstanding summer and should also be a force to be reckoned with in the final round. Other players to do well should include Mary Atkins, Marianne Mannell, Elaine Shand, Chrissy Danvers, Liz Fisher, Peg James and Heather Robinson.
Last Wednesday’s hot and humid day was no deterrent for the 28 players which enabled us to run two divisions. With all the top scores of the day coming from Div 1, we had 12 marker Jen Townsend as the r/up with a tidy 36 points, followed by Elaine Shand off 15 in 3rd place with 34 points on a c/b from Heather Purtill and Mary Atkins, who both received a ball.
The Div 2 winner was super trooper Bev Snowden on 33 points with Marilyn Powell on 29 receiving 2nd place on a c/b from Gai Leeson on a c/b.
With still no sign of rain, the relentless heat continued into Saturday for the ladies stableford event where a field of 12 players faced the starter. The hot scores continued with Peg James, off 16, coming in a handy winner with a commendable 37 points. R/up on the day was Marilyn Powell with 36.
