Grafton golf American Foursomes

Weekend competition

A rather unique competition was held last Saturday in contrast to our normal Saturday competitions, and that was the Corrie & Dean Hayes sponsored American Foursomes, which attracted a healthy field of 116 starters.

There was no doubting the winning combination with Tony Webber (23) and Mitch Hemming (11) absolutely smashing the field to win by a massive eight shots over their nearest competitors. A quick check of their card reveals that they had a 2 over par 38 around the front and supported that up with a 2 under par 34 around the back. With the application of their 12.750 handicap, resulted in an outstanding nett score of 59.250.

Obviously day light was second, however in the numerical scheme of things the pairing of Kevin Vaughan (31) and Noel Allan (19) picked up the r/up position with a nett score of 67.250. Kevin and Noel just edged out Billy (12) and Scott (11) Bishop who had to be satisfied with the 2nd r/up spot with a score of 67.375. To win a pro-ball you required a score of 70.750 nett or better.

Danny Li may not have featured in the major results, but he did win the biggest prize on offer on the day, when he recorded a hole-in-one on the 1st, that resulted in him picking up a lazy $1000, which was the jackpot prize. The jackpot will now revert back to $250 and if not won, will again progress to the maximum value of $1000.

The remaining nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Terry Barnes (27) on the 6th, Sam Herd (24) on the 10th with Lenny Jones (21) picking up the prize on the 17th.

Unfortunately the mixed event that was scheduled for Sunday had to be cancelled.

The next mixed competition will be held on Sunday December 19, which will be a 4BBB Stableford. The day will have a Christmas theme, with appropriate Christmas prizes on offer. Nomination for that event are now open and it will be the final mixed competition for the year.

Mid week competitions

The regular Tuesday members and veterans competition field continues to impress with 104 starters last Tuesday with some fairly impressive scoring.

Jason Casserly (10) and Billy Darby (11) both completed their rounds with 41 points to claim the win and r/up spot respectively in the members competition.  The 2nd r/up spot was awarded to Tony Gallagher (8) with 40.

Pro balls going down to 33 on a c/b.

In the Veterans side of the competition, Gary Pym (26) took out the major trophy with a score of 38 points following a seven way c/b. David Tasker (15) and Robert Usher (18) picked up the minor places for their 38. The remaining players with that score were, Tim Newsome (16), Barry Leeson (32), Bill Dudgeon (15) and Ray Evans (20) who had to be satisfied with a pro ball. Those Veterans with 34 points and better also earned themselves a pro ball.
