Grafton Floral Art Society

Due to the holding of the floral display at Grafton Shoppingworld our AGM was postponed to the second meeting of July.

Our thanks to Anne Sinclair from the Whitehouse, who chaired the meeting.

The results were as follows: president – Lyn Hayman; vice president 1 – Beth Wykes; vice president 2 – Doreen Winkley; secretary -Janni Walker; treasurer – Freda Johnson.

President Lyn thanked members for their tireless efforts at the floral display at Shoppingworld, the Agricultural Show, Cancer Council Morning Tea, the Festival of Flowers and Christmas function.

The treasurer gave a comprehensive report on the financial situation as at 30 June 2019 and answered any queries.

The demonstrator for the meeting was Freda who arranged four designs of floral art, one being modern, free expression and traditional. Owing to the drought conditions prevailing, the main flowers in the arrangement were poinsettias.

The Grafton Show floral art sections were once again tabled and will be further considered, as the Society will continue to sponsor this section at next year’s Show.

Doreen brought along an arrangement to display plant material that could be utilised in designs. The main features were curved grape vine, manipulated strelitzia foliage and flowers.

A reminder that the next meeting on August 8 will include an exercise in manipulation of leaves and foliage; please bring along suitable foliage or leaves e.g. aspidistra, cordyline or flax.

If a garden is interesting enough and well planted with a variety of shapes and textures, is colourful, on one will notice the weeds.
