Grafton Dougherty Property Pro Am this Friday

Once again, unfavourable weather has created more chaos, with our weekend golfing activities the main victim. However, the Tuesday December 7 members/veterans’ competition did proceed although with a reduced field.

Despite the difficult conditions which prevailed on the day 76 golfers took up the challenge with the resultant scores indicating just how hard those conditions were.

The results for both the members and veterans’ competition were identical with Brian Napper (7) leading the field home with 34 points. Also with 34 was Colin McLachlan (26) who was awarded the 1st r/up position. Four players, Trevor Townsend (15), Barry Fisher (8), a visitor from Yamba, Bruce Baxter (18) and Bruce Powell (22) all completed their rounds with 33 points with Trevor collecting the 2nd r/up prize on c/b.

NTP’s: in the members competition, Mick Carter (5) claimed the 6th; Glen Gardner (12) was the star on the 10th and Gary Cook’s 2nd shot into the 13th earned him the prize allocated to that particular hole.

The veterans had four NTP holes on offer. On the 1st Brian Dougherty (18) was the closest the 17th went to Terry Brooks (18), Barry Godwin (18) put it close on the 4th with his 2nd shot and Dougie Hughes (11) put a brilliant 2nd shot into the 14th to claim the prize on offer; sponsored by the Golf Club. In both competitions, pro balls went down to 28 points on a c/b.

Another casualty of the playing conditions was last Friday’s T.G.I.F. competition. That event has been postponed until sometime in January, fresh nominating will be required with the actual date yet to be determined.

Apart from our normal weekly competitions, the main focus this week will be on Friday’s Dougherty Property Pro Am for which 41 golf professionals have nominated.

The golf action will commence at 9.30am with a shot gun start. Spectators will be more than welcome to come and watch the Professionals take on the Championship layout of the Grafton Golf Club. Entry to the course will be free with plenty of free parking available in and around the course precinct. Should anyone who would really like to get close to the action, our Club Professional is looking for spotters to assist both the Professionals and invited amateurs progress around the course. If you can provide the time, contact the Pro shop on 6642 5413 and an appropriate hole will be allocated to you.

All members are advised that the AGM has been rescheduled to Sunday February 13 commencing at 11am. The closing date for the receipt of nominations for the various board of Directors positions has been extended and those nominations are now to close at 6pm Sunday January 30.  That particular nomination sheet is up on the Club notice board for your convenience.

Following Friday’s Pro Am, our normal Saturday competition will take place. The event will be the “Pro shop Skins” with teams of four players to make up the field.

Teams can be either made up of men or women combinations, or mixed teams if required. Prizes will be on offer for not only the team event and Skins, but also individual trophies will be available.

The event has also been designated as the “Doing it for Jarrod Day” a charity in recognition of the late Jarrod Lyle’s legacy of giving back to children and families living with cancer. A golf coin donation from all those playing in the event will go towards this particular charity in remembrance of Jarrod.

Don’t forget the mixed Christmas 4BBB Stableford is on this Sunday 19, usual shotgun start is at 10am.
