Grafton CWA Branch

Meeting held Friday June 10 at 10am in CWA rooms with acknowledgement to the country and singing of the Australian national anthem and CWA motto was recited.

There were 16 members were in attendance, with five apologies which accepted. Welcome to Robyn Brierley, a new member of Grafton CWA Branch

State handicraft meeting and workshop was held over a three-day period, we were instructed by state handicraft officers in smocking and beginners crocheting. All participating ladies enjoyed learning a new craft. Thank you for all the ladies for their lovely cooking and help in the kitchen to make the day successful.

Agricultural and Environment: Report, on ‘Water Quality’ hydro smart system. This article appeared in The Land newspaper and was presented by Lesley McFarlane.

Cooking Officer: Thank you to all the members who donated money, cooking, and assisted in the kitchen during State handicraft workshop. Cooking item for the day was chocolate cake. This was presented by Janice Wilkinson. Recipe used for jam drops and marble cake from the CWA Cookbook. Members were asked to sample the cake. All agreed it had a lovely colour, and texture.

Culture: Members bought their favourite scarf and gloves to be displayed, members voted which item was their favourite choice.

Handicraft: Members attended a demonstration at Glenreagh CWA rooms on knitting subject ‘blocking.’ Barbara Roberts presented this demonstration. The demonstration on this knitting technique was very interesting as this gave the knitted item a very nice finish. Thank you, Glenreagh ladies, for the lovely morning tea and your hospitality.

CWA Ladies will be selling raffle tickets in Shopping World complex, and Coles Mall King Street Grafton from June 23 until July 1, with the prizes being a selection of handicraft and donated items to be won.

Next meeting will be held Friday July 8.
