Grafton Chamber kicks off the new year

The Grafton Chamber of Commerce held its first breakfast meeting for 2020 at the Clocktower Hotel in Grafton, last Wednesday morning.

Guest speakers at the breakfast were Coffs/Clarence Police District Chief Inspector Joanne Reid and Theresa Kelly from the NSW Department of Fair Trading.

Chief Inspector Reid gave the Chamber some feedback on crime within Grafton’s CBD and the introduction of CCTV cameras, being a good tool in assisting police with crime. Chief Inspector Reid also spoke about cyber-crime and scammers which usually comes in waves. She advised businesses to keep up to date with health checks on their IT systems and to keep an eye on the Coffs/Clarence Police District Facebook page for alerts.

Theresa Kelly from NSW Department of Fair Trading Customer Service, spoke regarding the assistance which is available for those impacted by recent bushfires, through Service NSW. She also brought peoples attention to the dangers of using unlicensed tradies and the importance of using only trades licenced to work in NSW. Ms Kelly advised the Chamber of Bushfire Scams and the need to know where the money you donate actually goes and advised those wanting to donate, to do so personally to their local RFS Brigade.
