The Maclean Lower Clarence Hospital Auxiliary’s golf day on Sunday August 14 was very successful and a total of $2783 was raised which will go towards purchasing the latest equipment for Maclean District Hospital. Seventy five people from places as far apart as Maroochy River in Queensland to Winchelsea in Victoria enjoyed playing in perfect weather at the beautiful Yamba golf course. At the completion of play Michael Shirlow spoke on behalf of the club and announced the results. The winning team consisted of Yin Wong, Margaret Solomon, Ron Jeffrey and Jim Kelly who had a score of 54-3/4. The runners-up were Phillip Mawhinney, Andrew McLennan, Thomas McIntosh and Bret Serjeant. In third place were Judy and Ken Palich, William Petersen and Tony Eppell. Prizes for nearest the pin were won by Bill Petersen and Jane Bonner on the tenth hole, with Jamie Pengilly and Margaret Solomon the winners on the twelfth hole. The major raffle winners were Julie Vernol (ticket 62063) and Marie Ricketts (ticket 60939). The auxiliary would like to thank Yamba Golf Club including Luke and Joe for their donations of wine and vouchers, also for the rosters and organising the day. Donations from the following people were much appreciated: BWAC for sponsoring the green fees; John in the pro shop for balls and a cap; David for doing the board; Rita and Laurie Nutt for wine; Marlene Cavanagh for balls; Raine and Horne for chocolates, wine and bag; Jennifer Apps for hand towels. A big thank you to all the golfers who played, bought raffle tickets and patronised the numbers board. Finally, thank you to the auxiliary members who gave up their day to sell raffle tickets, cook sausages and help make the day a success. Maggie Combley
