Lower Clarence Master rowers Keryn Saunders, Mandy Steel, Joanne Meehan, Clare Millist, Candice Jagoe and David Hailes competed at the Northern Rivers Masters Rowing Championships recently and came home with 11 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals between them, making it a memorable day for all.
Keryn, Mandy, Joanne and Clare started the day off by winning the gold medal in the WM D-K quad scull race in convincing style.
Then it was time for their WM single scull races with Candice in the ‘A’ age group (27-35), Keryn ‘D’ (50-54), Mandy ‘E’ (55-59) all winning their respective races. Clare was not going to be left out and won the silver medal in the ‘G’ (65-69) section.
Then in the WM double sculls Mandy and Joanne won the gold medal in the ‘E’ section with Keryn and Clare claiming the gold medal in the ‘F’ (60-64) section.
Joanne also won bronze with a Murwillumbah crew in the mixed quad.
David being our only male rower did not let the girls take all the limelight when he finished strongly in his MM F-K single scull race to win the bronze medal. David also joined the boys from Iluka to win bronze in the MM F-K quad.
Thank you to our coach Keryn for the time you spend on our programs and guidance both on and off the water.
Our support crew is always important so thank you to Gemma Dane and Joy Hailes for all your help.
Congratulation to everyone and now we head to Penrith in May for the NSW State Championships.
