A GoFundMe page has been created in support of Clarence Valley woman Maddi Hambly after the 27-year-old sustained serious injuries in a single vehicle crash on Wooli Road at Pillar Valley, about 18km east of Grafton, on July 28.

Ms Hambly was returning home after attending a friend’s baby shower when her blue Kia Sportage left the road and crashed into a driveway before rolling and landing on its roof in an adjacent paddock.

Her 18-month-old daughter Lyla was also in the vehicle but fortunately managed to escape uninjured.

Upon arriving at the scene, NSW Ambulance paramedics treated Ms Hambly for severe leg and internal injuries, before she was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in a stable condition.

While officers attached to the Coffs/Clarence Police District established a crime scene and continue their investigations into the cause of the crash, Ms Hambly remains in hospital and has recently undergone multiple surgeries to stabilise her injuries.

Speaking with the Clarence Valley Independent last week, Tahlia Spicer, a family friend of Ms Hambly, said she launched the GoFundMe page to assist Ms Hambly and her little girl as she commences her long road to recovery.

Describing Ms Hambly as “beautiful” and “a loving mother”, Ms Spicer revealed she will spend the next four to five months in hospital and will have to learn to walk again after breaking both of her legs.

“Maddi completely shattered one of her legs, fractured several of her ribs, and also has a broken sternum, a bruised heart, and a broken neck,” she said.

“She also suffered a serious concussion.

“She’s lucky to be alive, and to still have both her legs.”

Ms Spicer said while Lyla is safe and happy and being cared for by her family, the toddler is struggling without her mum.

“Maddi will need full time care as she continues to recover, and not being able to work will have a huge impact on her livelihood, so any amount people can spare to help her and Lyla would be very kindly appreciated,” she said.
