The Clarence River Jockey Club (CRJC) has announced the sponsorship of this year’s Ramornie Handicap day, by the Grafton District Services Club (GDSC). CRJC CEO Michael Beattie said that the services’ club sponsorship was undoubtedly the biggest change to this year’s July racing carnival. “Any member of the GDSC is open to free entry to Ramornie day,” Mr Beattie said. “It’s never happened in the past and I don’t really know of any other regional club that would do a sponsorship deal of that magnitude, but again, we see that as a great step forward for Grafton and the community. “Most people in Grafton are members of the GDSC and they have an opportunity to come to the second biggest [race] day of the year as part of that membership package. “I think it’s a wonderful change and I hope a lot of members take advantage of it.”
