GDSC Men’s Pairs Championships underway

On Saturday April 2 the next of our club championships began with nine first round matches in the Club Pairs Championship for 2022 being played.

These matches will no doubt bring some very close results, as the field this year is one of the strongest seen for a number of years.

Harold Gibson & Barry Williams survived a ‘cliff-hanger’ against  Wayne McLeod and  Ray Toovey by 1 shot 20 – 19; Brian Buckley & Gwil Samuel def Paul Goratschow &  Neville Henwood 21 – 12; John Cameron & Neil Holt def Trevor Want & Jamie Pye in an even closer battle, with an extra end required to break the deadlock of 18 – all after the 21 ends, with John & Neil scoring two on the extra end, 20 – 18; Jason Ryan &  Greg Taylor def Kevin Blanch & G. Fuller 24 – 15; Chris Teare & Ken Ainsworth (welcome back to the green Chris) also required an extra end to defeat Barry Elder & Col Clark 20 – 19; Matty Shorten & Gregg Maxted came from well behind to defeat Peter Gillespie & Ken Landrigan 20 – 17.
