GDSC Men’s Pairs Championships underway

On Saturday April 2 the next of our club championships began with nine first round matches in the Club Pairs Championship for 2022 being played.

These matches will no doubt bring some very close results, as the field this year is one of the strongest seen for a number of years.

Results

Harold Gibson & Barry Williams survived a ‘cliff-hanger’ against  Wayne McLeod and  Ray Toovey by 1 shot 20 – 19; Brian Buckley & Gwil Samuel def Paul Goratschow &  Neville Henwood 21 – 12; John Cameron & Neil Holt def Trevor Want & Jamie Pye in an even closer battle, with an extra end required to break the deadlock of 18 – all after the 21 ends, with John & Neil scoring two on the extra end, 20 – 18; Jason Ryan &  Greg Taylor def Kevin Blanch & G. Fuller 24 – 15; Chris Teare & Ken Ainsworth (welcome back to the green Chris) also required an extra end to defeat Barry Elder & Col Clark 20 – 19; Matty Shorten & Gregg Maxted came from well behind to defeat Peter Gillespie & Ken Landrigan 20 – 17.

Garry Gumbleton & Lee Bond def Brian Napper & Garry Ahrens in another close game by two shots 19 – 17; Neil Payne & Allan Gough def George Mallison & Ken Foster 20 – 17; Rod Shorten & Tom McDonald def Paul Sutton & Shane Perkins 39 – 9.

Social bowls

In social bowls results, we had 38 players for our Wednesday March 23 pairs with our winners Peter Gillespie & Brian Hall; runners up went to Tim Dwyer, Garry Ahrens & Paul Sutton; consolation prize was won by Ray Evans & Ray Cavanagh.

The first resting touchers went to Jamie Pye on green 1 & Allan Knox on green 2.

On Friday March 25 we had 44 players take to the greens with our winners, Brian Rapley & Ben Gaarsted; runners up were Mike Hall & John Moerenhout; consolation winners were Ian McMillan & Ken Foster. 

The first resting touchers went to Paul Sutton & Jamie Blanchard.

Finally on Friday April 1 we had another great turn out of 52 players, with the winners, John Moerenhout & Mike Hall; runners up were Garry Cross & Chris Lawler; consolation prize went to Mal Myers & S. Wood. 

First resting touchers went to Ken Landrigan on green 1, and Gregg Maxted on green 2. 

Our three ‘free game’ winners were Robbie Power, Garry Cross & Tony Blanch.
