GDSC Fours Championships 2021

Mid-January is the normal time for the GDSC Club Fours Championships and 2021 is no exception. On Friday Jamie Pye’s team accounted for Squizzy Taylor’s team, that left eight teams to play on Saturday.

Ray Toovey’s team played Paul Cubbin’s team.  Cubbin’s team started well, running off to a 15 to 10 lead. Toovey’s overtook Cubbin’s but as soon as they got to the front, they ran into a brick wall. Cubbin’s went on to win 27 to 20.

Allan Knox’s team drew team Landrigan and that was an exciting match to watch with the Knox team winning by one shot. A great game of bowls.

Jamie Pye’s team drew Garnie’s team and another exciting game with Garnie’s winning by two shots. The only time Garnie’s was in front was after the first and twenty first ends.

Robert Ulrick’s team played Rocket’s team, Ulrick’s team won the game in an extra end by one shot.

Saturday’s play set up two exciting games on Sunday with Garnie’s winning over Ulrick’s. Mitch Gook, Des Clarke and Tony Lickiss gave Garnie an armchair ride.

The second Sunday game was between team Knox and team Cubbin. Barry Elder led the way to victory with support from Gary Harrison and the consistent Robbie Power who went onto a narrow but comfortable win in the end.

The final between team Knox and team Garner will be played after the District Fours games are over.
