Forgotten Iluka

Ed,

I totally agree with Mark Jones letter to this paper (CVI 30/3/22). The council infrastructure that currently exists with regard to storm water is totally inadequate and nothing but appalling.

A comprehensive survey was conducted in 2006 by Webb, McKeown and Associates and a number of recommendations were submitted to the council at that time with regard to storm water issues in Iluka. They were again addressed in the 2013/14 council operational plan. To date, little if any of these recommendations have been implemented.

When a future storm water flooding event occurs, it may be necessary to pursue the council via a class action by the residents affected to recuperate the cost in damage incurred to their properties, which may have been due to the inaction of this council in maintaining and upgrading of the storm water infrastructure.
