A grey sky and light spots of rain did nothing to deter close to 5000 motoring enthusiasts and visiting families from attending Motorfest 24 at Jabour Park in South Grafton over the weekend.
Hosted by the Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club, the annual attraction once again solidified its place as one of the premier community events in the Clarence Valley, with guests praising the spectacular line up of 250 classic cars and 26 motorcycles on public display.
With the number of entries and visitors up compared to previous years, Motorfest 24 Committee Chairman David Andrews said everyone had a good time despite the overcast conditions, with participants travelling from Coffs Harbour, Casino, Lismore, and even Texas in Queensland, to take part in the event on August 25.
“A lot of work goes into making Motorfest possible each year, and it’s all about community engagement,” he said.
“We had another terrific variety of classic cars and vintage vehicles on display this year, which was great, and the response we received from the general public couldn’t have been better.”
While there was once again an impressive number of beautifully restored and well-maintained Holdens on show in Jabour Park, Motorfest 24 shone a light on Fords this year in recognition of three classic models which are celebrating significant milestones in 2024.
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, the 55th anniversary of the Mk.1 Capri, and the 35th anniversary of the Australian built Capri Convertible.
Prizes were also awarded to the top 15 vehicles on display, with Ken Norton of South Grafton, taking home the top prize with his 1962 Toyota UP20 Publica, while Graham Bell of Yamba was awarded the Top Ford trophy for his 2022 Ford Raptor R.
Most Original Exhibit was presented to Michael Tarrant of Ulmarra for his unique 1925 Morris Truck, the Encouragement Award was won by John and Catherine Smith of Glenreagh for their 1967 Lotus Elan S3 SE, and winner of the Snap on Tools Award was Garry Cleaver of Waterview Heights for his 1973 Holden HQ.
The Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club also wish to graciously acknowledge the many local businesses throughout the Clarence Valley for supporting Motorfest 24 including major sponsors Benny’s Smash Repairs and Clarence Valley Council (CVC).
Each year proceeds from Motorfest are donated to a local charity.
Last year, the event raised $3000 for the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
The total amount raised from Motorfest 24 will be published in an upcoming edition of the Clarence Valley Independent.
