Families of Hope Appeal
A laugh, a question, a caller on the radio… how could these things possibly change a life?
Di spoke to us recently and shared part of her story,
“I went through a really horrific season in my life, I’m not sure if you’re aware of the impact of domestic violence and abuse, but I had lost all hope, and even though I’m a Christian, I found it really difficult. “I couldn’t do anything. I was in bed basically for the whole day most days. I knew about the Christian radio station, and I thought well, if I put it on, at least while I’m not feeling anything, at least positive stuff will be coming out of it. So, I had it on 24/7.”
Di was desperate to feel something… anything. She wasn’t feeling pain at this point. She wasn’t feeling sadness, or even anger. She was simply feeling…nothing. In desperation and with no real expectation, she decided that a form of osmosis of hope might be her last chance.
“One day I was laying there, and it was the Luke and Susie show, and this guy’s laugh…I’m not sure what he said but I just started laughing and starting to listen to the conversation and having more of a laugh. I remember just sitting up in bed and going, “Oh WOW God, look at me, I’m actually laughing.” I really was ready to end it all, because I just didn’t want to be here anymore. So I tuned in every day to the Luke and Susie Show and I realised you could ring up and talk. I really started to feel like I had a voice, I had a purpose, and that God really does have a plan for my life and I haven’t looked back since then.”
Through this season of violence and abuse, Di had been told that her opinion was irrelevant, that she was irrelevant, and she felt meaningless. Those lies became her story.
However, before that life-changing moment when Di turned the radio on, someone like you gave a simple gift. Someone like you invested in a radio station that is passionately committed to building families with a message of hope. Because of someone like you, Di was able to hear the truth… that she is loved, that she is valuable, and she’s been created for a purpose.
A message of hope, and simple generosity, rewrote Di’s story.
Aware that people gave so generously to the radio station that sparked new life in her, Di responded through the tears,
“I am just absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude, I think we have an awesome God and He has gifted and blessed people in order to be blessings to other people. In their faithfulness in giving have allowed the radio to open doors for others who have been in really horrible places. I would just encourage people, just please, please give. Who knows how many people you will have helped just by being generous when God calls you to be generous.”
Our Families of Hope Appeal is just days away now.
Why is this so important?
Because there are people across our community, like Di with her story, who are going through their own season of darkness. Some families are trying to cope with unimaginable loss and grief. Others are simply struggling to make ends meet.
And this appeal is your opportunity to bring HOPE into the lives of people like this, where it’s needed most. That’s why it’s so important.
So, how will you respond to Di’s plea to “please, please give”? Will you give your most generous gift to this crucial appeal, on behalf of those in our community who are desperate for HOPE?
