Clarence Valley Council CVC workers have made a significant start on repairs to the ocean rock pool at Main Beach, Yamba.
Workers took advantage of a last week’s run of low tides and not too much swell, to remove the pool floor’s eastern section, ready for contractors to complete the work, which includes pouring a new slab to replace what has been removed.
Council’s staff are overseeing the project following the councillors’ decision at the October 2018 CVC meeting, to “not accept the [one] tender received”, as it was “in excess of the $278,810 (ex GST) pre-tender estimate for the project”.
Extensive repairs, at an estimated cost $250,000, were also completed in late 2012.
Tropical Cyclone Oma is likely to make its presence felt, too, with four to five metre swells expected to pound the coast over the coming days, dependent on the cyclone’s movement.
At the time of writing (Monday) various storm prediction models were undecided on the track Oma would take, with variations from Townsville, to South East Queensland to New Zealand.
