Last week’s race may have had just three boats on the water, but the energy was high with plenty of crew eager to get involved.
‘Ishka’ claimed victory, taking full advantage of the conditions with no reefs and her full sail up. Meanwhile, ‘No Nathaniel’ is proving to be a real challenger—this sleek and fast boat is keeping everyone on their toes!
‘Sure Thing’, a consistent performer in past races, is finding its handicap catching up with them, making the wins harder to come by. The day offered excellent sailing conditions with plenty of wind, a welcome change from recent races where battling the tide added to the challenge. It wasn’t as wild as the week before, but it was still a thrilling day out on the water.
The club has been buzzing with excitement lately, with lots of new faces joining the crew. Our monthly Sunday social sails have been a big hit, exploring the river in a more relaxed setting. For those seeking bigger adventures, there’s talk of taking races offshore in the new year—something to look forward to!
We’d love to see more boats join our races. All boats, big or small, are welcome—the handicap system ensures a fair race for everyone. If you’ve been thinking about giving it a go, now’s the perfect time to jump in. You can crew for just $15 per sail, and we’re offering pro-rata memberships, making it easy to try the club out.
Don’t forget, Friday night drinks at the clubhouse are a great way to meet fellow sailing enthusiasts. Enjoy the sunset from our balcony above the Yamba Marina Café—there’s no better way to wrap up the week.
Check our website and social media for updates on upcoming events and races. Whether you’re racing, social sailing, or just enjoying the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone at Port of Yamba Yacht Club. Come join the fun!
