In the words of Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist.” This is the message Jenny Thomas and Beverley Scofield hope to convey during their visits to primary and secondary schools in the Clarence Valley. President of the Lower Clarence Arts and Crafts Association, Jenny Thomas, and 2016 winner of the 8 x 8 Small Works Exhibition, Beverley Scofield, will personally invite students to enter two exciting exhibitions to be held in 2017. The 8 x 8 Small Works Exhibition will be held March 27 – April 28. This year’s theme is Messages. The Clarence River Arts Festival, held at Maclean Showgrounds July 7-9, offers students a great opportunity to participate in the 52nd Annual Arts and Crafts Exhibition. Students can showcase their work in numerous categories, such as painting, drawing, photography, fine needlework, quilt making, and wearable art. Junior (3 – 13 years) and Youth (14 – 18 years) entry fee is $2 per artwork, which can be of any subject matter and be for sale. Artwork will be judged, with prize money for youth and junior art alone totalling over $400. Entry forms can be obtained from Ferry Park Gallery or online: www.clarenceriverartsfestival.com.au Please note entry forms and fee must be received by 5 pm Friday, June 30. This promises to be a wonderful, fun-filled event for the community, with numerous art and craft theme activities, demonstrations, market stalls, yummy food and beautiful exhibits for all the family to enjoy. Both Jenny and Bev firmly believe that all students deserve encouragement to express their natural talents through opportunities for learning and fun – and what better way than to showcase their work before appreciative audiences. In the words of another famous artist, Tom Roberts: …paint what you love and love what you paint… The same can be said for any medium – tap into your abilities and go with the flow! Beverley Scofield
